Here is a comparison of Aeroplan credit cards. American Express, CIBC and TD offer a variety of Aeroplan credit card products.
Entry-level Aeroplan credit cards are offered by two issuers:
Aeroplan mid-range credit cards are the most popular. Here are the names of the credit cards offered by the three issuers:
Aeroplan premium credit cards are Air Canada’s frequent flyer cards. Here are the names of the credit cards offered by the three issuers:
Of the three high-end Aeroplan credit cards, they all offer the same accumulation rates (including 1.25 points for out-of-category purchases). However, CIBC’s fees are different ($149 instead of $199 for the additional TD card). But $50 instead of $100 for the Nexus fee rebate.
As for American Express, the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card stands out for its high accumulation rate for purchases with Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations: 3 points per dollar. However, it doesn’t offer 6 airport lounge access points, or a discount on Nexus fees.
However, unlike CIBC and TD, which require an individual income of $150,000 or a family income of $200,000, American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card requires no minimum income.
Our comparative analysis shows that cards with higher annual fees offset this investment with superior Air Canada privileges, including access to Maple Leaf lounges, accelerated elite status and comprehensive travel insurance. For frequent flyers, these benefits can radically transform their flying experience, generating value far beyond the fee.
