Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is the third busiest airport in Canada, with more than 20 million passengers a year. This guide covers everything you need before you fly: the four terminal zones, the lounges, parking, ground transportation, security and the services available on site.

Montréal-Trudeau airport carries the IATA code YUL and the ICAO code CYUL. It sits in Dorval, roughly 20 km from downtown. Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) has managed the facilities since 1992.
The origin of the code YUL goes back to the 1930s. The letter “Y” marks Canadian airports that had a weather service. The letters “UL” come from the Morse identifier of a radio beacon at Kirkland, near Dorval.
More than 30 airlines serve YUL. Air Canada runs its main hub here. You will also find Air Transat, Porter Airlines, WestJet, United, Delta, American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and Copa Airlines.
YUL has a single passenger terminal, but it splits into four separate zones. That separation matters, because you cannot move from one zone to another once you clear security. Your destination therefore decides which lounges and services you can reach.
Flights to the United States go through American preclearance (U.S. Customs and Border Protection). You complete the customs formalities in Montreal, before boarding. On arrival in the United States, you are treated as a domestic passenger, with no immigration line.
Several options connect downtown Montreal to the airport. Your choice depends on budget, time of day and how much luggage you carry. Here are the main ones, from cheapest to fastest.
Since July 2026, Air Canada has run a shuttle between the Palais des congrès and YUL, in partnership with The Landline Company. The ticket costs $9 one way plus tax, and the service runs 37 daily departures in each direction.
STM route 747 links the bus terminal (Berri-UQAM) to the airport, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The trip takes 25 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. It remains the cheapest way to reach YUL.
After buying on mobile, activate your ticket before joining the line, then show it to the driver. You then have 120 minutes to use it. An STM information counter sits in the international arrivals area.
In the meantime, a bus route connects the Des Sources REM station directly to the airport. The trip takes under 15 minutes, with added service at peak times. A Tous modes A fare is enough to ride it.
Between YUL and downtown, the taxi fare is fixed and varies with the departure time. Uber and Lyft also serve the airport. The pickup zone sits at the arrivals level.
Highway 20 is the main access route to YUL. Expect congestion at peak hours, especially around the Dorval interchange.
ADM runs several official parking lots. The rate follows how close you park to the terminal: the nearer the building, the higher the price. Here are the current gate rates, taxes included.
All of these lots charge $8 per 20-minute block. Book online in advance on the ADM site to pay less than the posted gate rate.
CellParc groups three free waiting areas where you stay in your vehicle. When your passenger is ready, you leave CellParc and pick them up at the curbside zone.
To avoid congestion, ADM also recommends the P4 and P10 express drop-offs. Free and open seven days a week, they connect to the terminal by a dedicated shuttle in about 5 minutes.

CATSA runs the security checkpoint at YUL. Wait times swing a lot with the hour and the season. The YUL app and the CATSA website both post live wait times.
YULExpress lets you book a time slot at the checkpoint free of charge. Fill in the form within 72 hours of your flight, then take the priority lane when you arrive. You can book for a group of up to 10 passengers.

NEXUS opens a faster security lane at YUL and smooths American preclearance. The processing fee is US$120 for a card valid five years. Applicants under 18 pay nothing, and an in-person interview is still required.
Some loyalty tiers also open a priority lane. Aeroplan Elite 50K members and above get one on Air Canada flights.

Air Canada runs three Maple Leaf Lounges at YUL, one per zone, plus an Air Canada Café in the domestic zone. The domestic lounge reopened on May 20, 2026 after a full renovation, with a new buffet and a Montreal-inspired menu.
Four credit cards open these lounges with unlimited access, for the cardholder and one guest, as long as you fly Air Canada or a Star Alliance partner. Beyond the first guest, expect $59 per person.
The National Bank Lounge in the international zone closed on July 31, 2026 for a major renovation. Reopening is still planned for June 2028. A temporary lounge took over on August 1, on the same level, near gate 53.
The National Bank World Elite® Mastercard® gets the cardholder and one guest in free. Other National Bank Mastercard holders pay $63.24 taxes included per adult, and $40.24 per child aged 2 to 12, with a 25 % discount for bank clients.
American Express runs two Aspire lounges at YUL. The first, opened in July 2025, sits in the domestic zone between gates 1 and 2. The second serves the international zone, near gate 52.
The American Express Platinum Card® and the Business Platinum Card open both lounges without limit, for the cardholder and one guest. Without a partner card, walk-in entry to the international lounge costs $60 per adult and $40 per child.
Other cards get you in subject to availability, through Priority Pass, the Visa Airport Companion program or Mastercard Travel Pass.
Desjardins runs two Odyssey Lounges, one in the transborder zone (gate 76), the other in the international zone (gate 63). The Desjardins Odyssey Visa Infinite Privilege Card gives 12 free visits a year, against 8 for the Desjardins Odyssey World Elite Mastercard.
The Air France-KLM Lounge, between gates 55 and 57, ranks among travellers’ favourites at YUL. It opens from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. That said, entry priority goes to Air France business class passengers. Access on a DragonPass or Priority Pass membership can therefore be refused even when the room looks empty.

ADM has modernised its retail spaces in recent years. Airside, you will find brasseries pouring Quebec beers, fast food, cafes and a few spots serving local dishes such as poutine and smoked meat.
Duty-free shops sit in all three zones after security. Prices there are exempt from federal and provincial tax, which works out to roughly 15 % less than city prices.
YUL offers free unlimited Wi-Fi throughout the terminal. Select the “YUL Wi-Fi” network, then accept the terms of use. The speed handles browsing, email and video comfortably.
