Aeroplan Cancellation Policy: Change and Refund Fees (2026)

Aeroplan lets you:

cancel flight rewards within 24 hours of booking without any charge
cancel or change a flight reward up to two hours before departure

Short answer: as of October 2026, according to Air Canada's Aeroplan Flight Reward Policy, cancelling a Standard fare reward costs $150 on aircanada.com or $175 through the Aeroplan Contact Centre, and changing it costs $75 or $100 per direction. Latitude and flexible fares can be changed for free. For the rest of the program, see our Aeroplan program page.

The 2-hour deadline is strict. Under sections 20 and 21 of the Aeroplan Flight Reward Policy, if you cannot travel, you must change or cancel your reward at least 2 hours before departure. Otherwise, the ticket is forfeited: it is no longer valid for travel or points reinstatement. For example, if you cancel an Economy Standard reward on aircanada.com the day before departure, you pay the $150 fee and get your points back; if you do nothing and miss the flight, you lose them. The fees are listed in section 27 of the policy.

Here are the Aeroplan Reward change/cancellation fee tables:

Aeroplan’s Economy Flex fare option includes waived change fees, as do Economy Latitude, Premium Economy (flexible), Business Class (flexible) and First Class (flexible).
Economy Standard, Premium Economy (lowest), Business Class (lowest) and First Class (lowest) fare options allow changes for a change fee of CDN $75 on aircanada.com or CDN $100 through the Aeroplan Contact Centre (per direction, per ticket).
Air Canada states that these fees may be waived for eligible Aeroplan Elite Status members.

Flight changes with Aeroplan and Air Canada

How and when can I change the dates of my plane ticket?

To modify or change the dates of your flight ticket, you can do so online on the Air Canada website or with an agent up to two hours before departure. Modification rules vary according to the fare category of your ticket.

Can you cancel an Aeroplan reward for free?

Yes, in two cases. Any Aeroplan flight reward can be cancelled at no charge within 24 hours of booking. After that, only Economy Latitude and the flexible fares in Premium Economy, Business Class and First Class can still be cancelled for free. The Economy Flex fare costs $75 on aircanada.com or $125 through the Aeroplan Contact Centre.

What is the Aeroplan cancellation fee on a Standard fare?

After the first 24 hours, cancelling an Economy Standard reward costs $150 on aircanada.com or $175 through the Aeroplan Contact Centre, per ticket. The same fees apply to the lowest fare in Premium Economy, Business Class and First Class. Cancelling online therefore saves you $25.

How late can you change or cancel an Aeroplan flight reward?

According to Air Canada's Aeroplan Flight Reward Policy, you can change or cancel an Aeroplan reward up to 2 hours before departure. A change is still subject to reward seat availability. Fees depend on your fare, your cabin and the channel you use: aircanada.com costs less than the Aeroplan Contact Centre.

How much does a same-day change cost?

At the airport, on the day of travel, a change costs $100 in Economy Standard, Economy Flex and the lowest Premium Economy fare. It costs nothing in Economy Latitude, on flexible fares, and on the lowest fare in Business Class and First Class.

Do Aeroplan Elite members pay these fees?

Not always. Air Canada states that change and cancellation fees may be waived for eligible Aeroplan Elite Status members. Check the benefits of your status level before you pay: depending on your status, changing or cancelling a Standard fare reward may cost you nothing.
