To the point From May 17 to May 30, 2021, you'll be able to use fewer points when shopping at Amazon.ca or getting prepaid cards.

The American Express Membership Rewards program is running a promotion from May 17 to May 30, 2021 to redeem your points:

  • For prepaid cards
  • For purchases on amazon.ca

Fewer points for prepaid cards

For a limited time, you can redeem fewer points for prepaid cards:

Prepaid Card Regular Promo
$25 3,125 points 2,500 points
$50 6,250 points 5,000 points
$100 12,500 points 10,000 points
$200 25,000 points 20,000 points
$500 62,500 points 50,000 points
$1,000 125,000 points 100,000 points

These are American Express prepaid cards.

For example, if you have earned 50,000 points with the American Express Cobalt™ Card in the past few months, you could redeem them for a $500 prepaid card.

Fewer points for amazon.ca

For a limited time only, you can redeem fewer points for purchases on Amazon.ca. Instead of using 1,000 points for $7, you can redeem 1,000 points for $10 on Amazon.ca.

Conclusion

In both cases, the redemption rate is the same as what you would get by using your points for travel purchases made with your Card: 1 cent per point.

However, this is less than you could get by transferring your points to a program like Marriott Bonvoy (or Aeroplan for eligible cards).
