Get a bonus when you buy IHG Rewards points
While there is no longer an IHG Rewards credit card in Canada, it is still possible to earn points:
- with a stay at one of the IHG Group hotels
- by purchasing IHG Rewards points
If we do not recommend purchasing points during a regular period, it may be worthwhile during a promotional offer like now.

Until June 10, you could earn 100% Bonus Points when you buy IHG Rewards Points.
The maximum number of points may differ for each IHG Rewards account.
We are able to buy up to 250,000 IHG points and get 250,000 bonus points or 500,000 IHG points total. At a cost of US$ 2,500 or 0.5 US cents per point.
The transaction to buy points is in US dollars.
We recommend using a credit card with no FX fee to save 2.5% on this points purchase! Here are the top 3 credit cards in Canada:
Is it worth buying IHG points?
The answer to this question is yes and no.
In Canada, we are not fortunate enough to have credit cards that directly or indirectly earn IHG Rewards points (unlike the multiple credit card options for earning Marriott Bonvoy points).
So, buying IHG Rewards points can be a great option ONLY when you have a particular goal in mind.
Personally, I value IHG Rewards points at 0.5 US cents (or 0.62 Canadian cents), although those points can be redeemed at a much higher value.
As part of this promotion, you can buy IHG Rewards points for 0.5 US cents per point.
Conclusion
Buying IHG points can be interesting for some people, whether for a specific travel objective and/or to complete a points balance in order to get a free night.
But if you’re not in one of these situations, we don’t recommend buying points and preferring other programs like Marriott Bonvoy or Best Western Rewards, for which it’s much easier to get points with credit cards!
