To the point For a limited time, you can buy IHG Rewards points with a bonus to save on your hotel nights.

Get a bonus when you buy IHG Rewards points

While there is no longer an IHG Rewards credit card in Canada, it is still possible to earn points:

If we do not recommend purchasing points during a regular period, it may be worthwhile during a promotional offer like now.

Note: This is a recurring promotion; the last one ended on March 21, 2023.

IHG Brands

Until April 11, 2023, you could earn 100% bonus IHG Rewards points when you purchase.

This is a targeted offer; the minimum number of points may also be different for each IHG Rewards account. For example, this time, Marie-Ève can get a 100% bonus in points with a purchase of only 5,000 points!

We have the opportunity to buy up to 150,000 IHG Rewards points and get 150,000 bonus points for a total of 300,000 IHG Rewards points. At a cost of US$1,500 or 0.5 US cents per point.

Is it worth buying IHG points?

The answer to this question is… Yes & no.

In Canada, we are not fortunate enough to have credit cards that directly or indirectly earn IHG Rewards points (unlike the multiple credit card options for earning Marriott Bonvoy points).

So, buying IHG Rewards points can be a great option ONLY when you have a particular goal in mind.

Personally, I value IHG Rewards points at 0.5 US cents (or 0.62 Canadian cents), although they can be used at a much higher value.

As part of this promotion, you can purchase IHG Rewards points for 0.5 US cents.

Bottom Line

Buying IHG points can be interesting for some people, whether for a specific travel objective and/or to complete a points balance in order to get a free night.

But if you’re not in one of these situations, we don’t recommend buying points and prefer other programs like Marriott Bonvoy where it’s much easier to earn points with credit cards!
