Spend some time at the beginning of the year to plan and optimize your future spending. This is the time to see if everything is going well or if you need to revise your strategy, especially for expenses like groceries!

The pursuit of a status

In general, airline or hotel program status is earned between January 1 and December 31 of each year. If a certain level has been reached or exceeded during that year, the status is extended to the following year. Otherwise, it is lost.

Everything starts again from scratch on January 1, 2024. What will your status be for 2024? How much do you value it?

If you’ve achieved status recently, have you selected your benefits for the year (with Aeroplan and Marriott Bonvoy, in particular)?

If you have achieved Platinum or Titanium status with Marriott Bonvoy during the year, don’t forget to choose your annual benefit.

The deadline is January 7, 2024. However, if you don’t, the default choice will be to receive “Five Nightly Upgrade Awards”.

Transferring points to other programs

  • Scene+ has flexible points that can be used to pay for groceries or reimburse travel expenses;
  • The Moi program now lets you collect and use Moi points at Super C, Première Moisson, Metro, Jean Coutu and Brunet.

New Year's Resolution: Use online shopping portals

Don’t forget the shopping portals! Take advantage of these easily earned points to increase your point balance or cash back.

All you have to do is to go through one of these shopping portals and use their link BEFORE making the purchase on your favorite store’s website.

Plus, you can double dip when there are promotions with even better multipliers on long weekends, Black Friday, and during certain holidays or vacations.

And finally, keep an eye out for online offers from programs such as American Express, Scene+ and Avion Rewards. These can save you money year-round on all kinds of purchases.
