Purchase points : Receive a 100% bonus when you purchase IHG Rewards points

To the point For a limited time, you can buy IHG Rewards points with a bonus to save on your hotel nights.

Get a bonus when you buy IHG Rewards points

Until October 5, 2024, you could earn 100% points IHG Rewards points by purchasing points.

Don’t forget that Iberostar Resorts all-inclusive hotels are now part of the IHG hotel chain. So we can exchange IHG points for free nights at Iberostar!

IHG Brands

While there is no longer an IHG Rewards credit card in Canada, it is still possible to earn points:

If we do not recommend purchasing points during a regular period, it may be worthwhile during a promotional offer like now.

Note: This is a recurring promotion that recurs every 2 months or so, with a variation in the bonus percentage.

The minimum number of IHG Rewards points to purchase to get the 100% bonus is 5,000 points.

You can purchase up to 150,000 IHG points and receive 150,000 bonus IHG points for a total of 300,000 IHG points.

Is it worth buying IHG points?

The answer to this question is… Yes and no.

In Canada, we are not fortunate enough to have credit cards that directly or indirectly earn IHG Rewards points (unlike the multiple credit card options for earning Marriott Bonvoy points).

Weigh the cost of a night at an IHG hotel in dollars against its cost in points. For example, if you buy $500 worth of IHG points and the room costs $1,000, you’re a winner.

So, buying IHG Rewards points can be a great option ONLY when you have a particular goal in mind. You can also take advantage of the current promotion during your next hotel stay to collect even more points.

Personally, I value IHG Rewards points at 0.5 US cents (or 0.62 Canadian cents) and they can be used for much more.

Bottom Line

So buying IHG points can be interesting for some, whether it’s for a specific travel purpose and/or to top up a points balance for a free night.

But if you’re not in one of these situations, we don’t recommend buying points and prefer other programs like Marriott Bonvoy where it’s much easier to earn points with credit cards!
