Get a bonus when you buy IHG Rewards points
While there is no longer an IHG Rewards credit card in Canada, it is still possible to earn points:
- with a stay at one of the IHG Group hotels
- by purchasing IHG Rewards points
If we do not recommend purchasing points during a regular period, it may be worthwhile during a promotional offer like now.
Note: This is a recurring promotion; the last one ended on October 9, 2023 with a 100% bonus.
Until December 30, 2023, you could earn 100% points IHG Rewards points by purchasing points.
Don’t forget that Iberostar Resorts all-inclusive hotels are now part of the IHG hotel chain. So we will be able to exchange IHG points for free nights in Iberostar soon!
The minimum number of IHG Rewards points to purchase to get the 100% bonus is 5,000 points.
We are able to buy up to 250,000 IHG points and get 250,000 bonus points or 500,000 IHG points total.
Is it worth buying IHG points?
The answer to this question is… Yes & no.
In Canada, we are not fortunate enough to have credit cards that directly or indirectly earn IHG Rewards points (unlike the multiple credit card options for earning Marriott Bonvoy points).
So, buying IHG Rewards points can be a great option ONLY when you have a particular goal in mind. You can also take advantage of the current promotion during your next hotel stay to collect even more points.
Personally, I value IHG Rewards points at 0.5 US cents (or 0.62 Canadian cents) and they can be used for much more.
Buying IHG points can be interesting for some people, whether for a specific travel objective and/or to complete a points balance in order to get a free night.
