To the point Step by step, here's how to use Scene+ points when you want to pay less for a trip.

Scene+ – How to easily earn points with a credit card

One of the most rewarding ways to redeem Scene+ points is to use them to pay yourself back for a travel expense.

There are several credit cards that earn Scene+ points.

The one used for this example is the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card.

On top of that, Scene+ promotions and offers come around often and let you earn points even more easily. Keep an eye out and check our article, updated regularly with every promotion:

The redemption process itself is simple. Knowing where to start it, however, is not necessarily obvious.

First, go to your profile in Scotiabank online banking. Your Scene+ points balance appears under your credit card. Click View Scene+ Rewards.

And there you are, on the page you were looking for.

Eligible travel expenses show up automatically. The Scene+ program is very flexible, accepting expenses from the last 12 months. It does require a minimum balance of 5,000 Scene+ points to make a redemption.

Check off the travel expense or expenses you want. For example, against the $353 cost of the Intercontinental Chicago, I can apply all 32,041 points I hold.

Since 100 points = $1 in credit, that comes to $320.41 in value.

To confirm the redemption, click Continue.

To confirm the redemption, click Yes, I want to continue.

To wrap up, Scene+ summarizes the redemption along with your new Scene+ points balance. If everything looks right, click Accept and submit to finalize the transaction.

Scene+ – Another option: how to use your points with Expedia

Through Scene+ Travel, powered by Expedia, you can earn 3 points for every dollar spent on hotel bookings, car rentals and activities.

Your Scene+ points can then simply be used to bring down the cost of that travel expense.

Conclusion

Thanks to Scene+ points, this stay at the Intercontinental Chicago will cost me $33 net ($353 bill less $320 in Scene+ points). That is excellent.

On top of that, because this Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card charges no foreign transaction fees, I will have avoided an extra 2.5% charge on my hotel bill. That makes me doubly happy.
