Business Platinum Card® from American Express
Earn up to 120,000 points with this welcome offer for the Business Platinum Card® from American Express:
- 80,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $15,000 in net purchases on your Card in the first 3 months of Cardmembership

120,000 points therefore have a minimum value of $1,200 as a statement credit, and much more if you transfer your points to a partner.
For example, with this welcome offer, if you decide to transfer your Membership Rewards points to a partner loyalty program, you could choose to get up to:
- 120,000 Aeroplan points
- 120,000 Avios
- 120,000 Flying Blue Miles
- 144,000 Marriott Bonvoy points
With this Card, you earn 1.25 Membership Rewards points per dollar on all purchases. You also get benefits for your travel and your business:

Value of Membership Rewards Points
120,000 Membership Rewards points are worth $1,200 if redeemed against any purchase charged to your card, for a value of 1 cent per point.
But in our opinion, the value can be much greater by transferring your points to partner loyalty programs such as Aeroplan, The British Airways Club, Flying Blue or Marriott Bonvoy!
Personally, I use my Membership Rewards points by transferring them to Aeroplan to book flights:
- In business class: here the return I get is at least 4 cents per point (so a value of $4,800 for 120,000 points).
- For multi-destination flights in North America: here, I often get at least 2 to 3 cents per point (i.e. a value of $2,400 to $3,600 for 120,000 points).
Or I use my Membership Rewards points via the American Express fixed-point travel program for certain North American destinations: the return is 2 cents per point (a value of $2,400 for 120,000 points).

Frequently Asked Questions about the Business Platinum Card from American Express SME Offer
Here are frequently asked questions in the milesopedia community about this card.
What is the welcome bonus on the Business Platinum Card from American Express?
The current SME offer on the Business Platinum Card® from American Express totals up to 120,000 Membership Rewards points, split into two tiers:
- 80,000 points after spending $15,000 in net purchases within the first 3 months
- 40,000 additional points after making a purchase between months 15 and 17 of cardmembership
At the minimum value of 1 cent per point against the statement, that’s worth at least $1,200 in credit, but the points typically deliver more value when transferred 1:1 to Aeroplan, Marriott Bonvoy or other partners.
How many Membership Rewards points do I earn on each purchase?
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express earns a flat 1.25 Membership Rewards points per dollar on every eligible purchase, with no category bonuses to manage. Combined with the welcome bonus, a business spending $15,000 over the first three months earns roughly 18,750 points from regular spend plus the 80,000 bonus, for nearly 99,000 points before the second tier even unlocks. Points are flexible and can be redeemed for statement credit, travel through American Express Travel, or transferred 1:1 to airline and hotel programs like Marriott Bonvoy.
What lounge access and travel credits come with the card?
The card includes some of the strongest travel benefits of any Canadian business card:
- Complimentary unlimited access to 1,400+ airport lounges in 130+ countries (Priority Pass, Centurion, Plaza Premium and more) for the cardholder plus one guest
- $200 annual travel credit applied automatically to eligible bookings
- $100 statement credit for NEXUS membership (every 4 years)
- Up to $120 in annual wireless credits and up to $200 in Dell credits
- Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite and Hilton Honors Gold status
Is the Business Platinum Card from American Express worth the annual fee for a small business?
For a Canadian small business that spends at least $15,000 over three months and uses lounges, the math works in your favour. The $200 travel credit, $120 wireless credit and $200 Dell credit alone offset over $500 of the fee every year, before counting lounge access and 120,000 points worth at least $1,200. The card also includes $500,000 in travel accident insurance, car rental theft and damage coverage up to $85,000 MSRP, and up to $1,000 for flight delays. It’s less suited to a business spending under $25,000 a year.
