Wondering if the Chexy Aeroplan offer is worth it? In this article, we explain how it’s possible to earn over 80,000 Aeroplan points simply by paying your rent with the right credit card.
Chexy is an innovative Canadian platform that is revolutionizing the way we pay our recurring bills such as rent, taxes, and many other bills. Founded to fill a specific market need, this fintech allows consumers to settle their fixed expenses by credit card, even when providers traditionally only accept bank transfers or checks.
The platform allows its users to make a wide variety of payments, including:
In June, Chexy and Aeroplan announced a partnership with a limited-time offer that allows Chexy users to earn bonus Aeroplan points on recurring payments made through the Chexy platform. The offer was subsequently extended until September 15, 2025.You can earn up to 10,000 Aeroplan points to redeem for Air Canada flights by completing the following actions:
To maximize Aeroplan points and take advantage of this special offer, the idea is to use significant expenses, such as rent, to unlock a welcome offer that requires a certain amount of spending over a given period.
This is the case with the American Express® Gold Rewards Card; its welcome offer is up to 60,000 Membership Rewards points.
When I saw the offer details, it became clear to me that it was perfect for using Chexy to pay monthly rent. Here’s how it’s distributed:
Let’s say your rent is $1,500. Taking into account Chexy’s 1.75% fee, you’ll be charged $1,526.25 per month. These payments alone will earn you 18,312 Membership Rewards points over one year.
In the first year as an American Express® Gold Rewards Card member, your rent payments will allow you to earn the 5,000 Membership Rewards points from the welcome offer each month, for 12 months, for a total of 60,000 Membership Rewards points.
This represents a total of 78,312 Membership Rewards points with the American Express® Gold Rewards Card, and 10,000 bonus Aeroplan points earned directly through the Chexy Aeroplan partnership launch offer.
All you’ll need to do is transfer these Membership Rewards points to Aeroplan, and you’ll have 88,312 Aeroplan points more than before. Milesopedia estimates that a well-used Aeroplan point has a value of approximately 2 cents per point; this represents savings of $1,766 for your next trip! These points can gain even more value if you find sweet spots in business class with Aeroplan, for example.
Another advantage of the American Express® Gold Rewards Card welcome offer: since points are deposited continuously each month when minimum spending is reached, it’s easy to use a portion of the points for a trip during the first year of card use. In other words, no need to wait until you’ve unlocked the entire bonus to start traveling!
To determine whether Chexy’s 1.75% fee is worth it, you need to do the math. Obviously, the fees increase or decrease if your rent is higher or lower than $1,500. But following the previous example, Chexy fees are $26.25 per month, or $315 per year.
To this are added the annual fees of the American Express® Gold Rewards Card, which are $250. However, the Card offers a $100 annual travel credit, which offsets part of the fees, as well as a large number of benefits such as insurance and a Priority Pass membership.
For 78,312 Aeroplan points or the equivalent of at least $1,566 for travel, it’s clearly worth it. However, you must use the points wisely.
The American Express® Gold Rewards Card is not the only card that is advantageous for using Chexy; you just need to find a card that can give you greater value per dollar spent than Chexy’s 1.75% fee. For example, the Scotiabank Momentum® VISA Infinite* Card offers 4% cash back on recurring payments, meaning all payments made with Chexy.
Chexy offers a referral system that allows you to save on fees related to your payments each month. You can reach different levels that allow you to lower these fees, in addition to accumulating dollars to use in your Chexy Wallet to reimburse Chexy fees.
Paying your rent with Chexy, or even paying other recurring bills, is a fairly simple process. It took me about fifteen minutes to set up the first time, and once everything is in place, the process is automated each month.
I detail the process in our guide on rent payments with Chexy. To take advantage of the Aeroplan offer, you will need to provide your Aeroplan membership number. You will then need to enter the information for the credit card on which you wish to charge the expense.
My recommendation is to complete this process at the beginning of the month, to allow time to notify your landlords about changes to banking information if it is a pre-authorized debit payment.
If you do not yet have the American Express® Gold Rewards Card in your possession when you sign up for Chexy, you can always use another one in the meantime, then change it before the payment is made.
Chexy now allows Canadians to pay rent and bills, taxes, tuition, and much more to accumulate more credit card rewards.
With the current Chexy Aeroplan launch offer combined with the American Express® Gold Rewards Card welcome offer, you can easily earn over 80,000 Aeroplan points by paying your rent for the next 12 months with Chexy.
The Aeroplan launch offer for Chexy ends on September 15, 2025. Now is the time to sign up and claim these bonus points!
