Marriott International Expands Its Partnership With the City Express Chain

To the point On October 8, 2024, Marriott International announced the expansion of its partnership with the City Express by Marriott brand in the United States and Canada.

Marriott is demonstrating its intention to develop in the affordable mid-range sector for travellers.

Since acquiring City Express in the Caribbean and Latin American regions, Marriott Bonvoy has seen “tremendous interest for the brand” and is “pleased” with growth in the region, mentioned Diana Plazas-Trowbridge, senior vice president and global brand leader for Select Brands, via press release.

In May 2023, Marriott International announced the acquisition of the City Express brand portfolio from Hoteles City Express, a Mexican chain. This agreement enabled Marriott to launch its 31st brand, City Express by Marriott.

Marriott has added nearly 150 properties to its empire, significantly increasing its presence in Latin American countries.

The addition of City Express to Marriott International’s portfolio has made it the largest hotel company in Latin America and the Caribbean.

City Express Hotels include city, suburban, and extended stays in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile, with exceptional brand recognition among Latin American travellers.

This transaction increased Marriott’s presence in the Caribbean and Latin American regions by around 45%, to more than 480 properties in 37 countries.

This is excellent news for members of the Marriott Bonvoy program, who will have even more opportunities to use and earn points on future trips.
