To the point Air Canada announces new updates to Aeroplan Elite Status and eUpgrades

Priority Rewards

A priority bonus is earned based on SQD and Elite status. Every time you reach a new SQD step, you get a coupon.

Each voucher gives a 50% discount on the fare in points, for one passenger.

These priority rewards earned in 2021 will be extended to December 31, 2022. This is a further extension, as the 2020s had already been extended to 31 December 2022.

Status Qualification Dollars for residents outside Canada

This change will only affect members whose principal residence is outside Canada. So a very small fraction of people are affected.

They will no longer be eligible for status with 50% less status eligibility dollars.

Thus, this means that from January 2022 and beyond, all members will have to meet the published dollar requirement for status eligibility to qualify.

Aeroplan points expiry reminder

As a reminder, earlier this year, Air Canada extended the suspension of Aeroplan point expiration to January 31, 2022. This means that between now and January 30, 2022, any points which would have expired will not.

Effective January 31, 2022, the normal expiration policy will once again apply, meaning that points will expire if an eligible transaction has not been completed prior to this date. This will be reflected in member accounts beginning later this month.

Remember, the easiest way to keep points from expiring is to make recurring transactions (such as purchases through the Aeroplan eBoutique or with an Aeroplan credit card like the American Express® Aeroplan®* Card).
