For mobile device insurance

To take advantage of the Mobile Device Insurance, your Apple device must be fully charged to your credit card account (or it can be financed through a plan where all monthly payments are charged to your credit card account). Otherwise, the insurance won’t be applicable in the event of an incident.

Also, make sure to keep the credit card used if there is a claim to be made. If your credit card account is closed, the insurance stops.

Many credit cards offer 2-year (from date of purchase), $1,000 Mobile Device Insurance:

Do you want a higher level of coverage?

The RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card offers 2-year, $1,500 Mobile Device Insurance.

Earn more points

To earn more points than usual, use our gift card trick. Take advantage of certain credit cards, which have an additional multiplier for groceries.

For example, with the American Express Cobalt® Card, you get 5X points on grocery purchases. There, you can buy $500 in Apple gift cards at Metro, Super C or many IGAs, to pay for your new Apple Watch Series 10 or iPhone 16.

You will earn 2,500 Membership Rewards points (5 X $500). That’s a minimum reward value of $25.

If you bought your device directly from Apple, you would have had just 500 points, as the American Express Cobalt® Card offers 1X points on “other” purchases.

Please note that a combination of Apple gift card payments and the rest of the payment charged to a credit card will void the warranty as well as the insurance. For peace of mind, purchase Apple Care+. This can also be paid for with gift cards.

Use a rewards site

Aeroplan eStore, Rakuten and Airmilesshops.ca offer you the chance to earn rewards for your online purchases.

By going through these sites BEFORE you shop at Apple, you can earn cash back, Aeroplan points or AIR MILES miles.

However, make sure to check the exclusions. The newest models are often excluded, but sometimes you may still get the reward… It’s worth giving it a try.

Otherwise, you can always buy an iPhone from last year, like the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They will most likely be sold at a lower liquidation price and will not be excluded.

To reach the minimum spend and get a welcome bonus

In order to get the biggest return on your Apple purchase, seize this opportunity to unlock a welcome bonus with a new credit card.

The purchase invoice for an iPhone 16 helps you with the expenses required to collect the bonus of two very good cards:

Each offers 40,000 Aventura points. Their precious points and four complimentary visits to airport lounges mean you can enjoy excellent value travel!

An iPhone 16 that takes you for a trip… that’s an excellent deal.

Rogers Red MastercardMD has a promotion to spread iPhone 16 payments up to 48 months.

When you purchase a new iPhone 16 at a Rogers store with your Rogers Red credit card, your monthly payments will be reduced by 50% with the Equal Installment Plan at 0% interest for 36 or 48 months.

Bottom Line

When faced with a major expense like the new iPhone 16, there are several things to consider when choosing the best credit card for the purchase.

Of course, we want to collect as many points as possible, but we must also consider insurance and warranty.

It’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons of all the factors to determine what’s right for your situation. This iPhone 16 purchase with this great accumulation of points will allow you to get it for cheap, in the end!
