Example of transfer from Marriott Bonvoy

Let’s take the example of converting Marriott Bonvoy points into Aeroplan Miles as part of this promotion.

marriott bonvoy transfert aeroplan 1 1

If you recently obtained the Marriott Bonvoyᵐᶜ American ExpressMD card, you normally have just over 53,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (50,000 points for the welcome bonus and 3,000 points for requested purchases of $1,500 within the first 3 months).

This means that:

53,000 Marriott Bonvoy points

=

17,667 Aeroplan miles (3:1 ratio)

+ 30% (conversion bonus)

=

22,967 Aeroplan miles

However, it would be much wiser to convert 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points because the Marriott Bonvoy program offers an additional 5,000 Aeroplan miles bonus for every 60,000 points converted!

Thus:

60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points

=

20,000 Aeroplan miles (3:1 ratio)

+ 5,000 Aeroplan miles (bonus offered by Marriott Bonvoy)

+ 30% (conversion bonus)

=

32,500 Aeroplan miles

Example of transfer from membership rewards via Marriott Bonvoy

American Express’ membership rewards program allows you to transfer membership rewards in Aeroplan miles directly at a rate of 1:1 with these 4 cards

However, the Cobaltᵐᶜ American Express card does not allow you to transfer your points into Aeroplan Miles.

The trick here is to use the Marriott Bonvoy program to convert your Membership Rewards points accumulated on the Cobaltᵐᶜ American Express card into Aeroplan Miles!

So this gives:

50,000 membership rewards

=

60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (5:6 ratio)

=

20,000 Aeroplan miles (3:1 ratio)

+ 5,000 Aeroplan miles (bonus offered by Marriott Bonvoy)

+ 30% (conversion bonus)

=

32,500 Aeroplan miles

Bottom Line

We always tell you that it is best to use your points and miles within the loyalty program in which they were issued to you.

However, some promotions like this can be interesting, especially if you’re missing miles to book the airline reward of your dreams!
