How do Money-Back Categories work?

With both Tangerine credit cards, you earn 2% money-back on everyday purchases in 2 categories of your choice. They’re the only ones in Canada to offer this choice!

So, like most other discount cards, it’s not limited to gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies and the like. You could ask to have this 2% cash back applied to your purchases in the stores where you shop the most!

Here are the categories:

In other purchase categories, you’ll earn 0.5% cash back.

As a holder of one of these cards, you automatically have the right to choose two categories.

If you are a Tangerine Bank customer, and you choose to deposit your cash back into your Tangerine savings account, you will be able to choose a 3rd category!

If you’re not yet a customer, don’t hesitate to become one – it’s free and you could get a welcome bonus, as we explain here.

You can change the types of stores that allow you to accumulate 2% according to your spending habits. This can be useful, for example, for travel expenses (hotels), purchases for a new home (furnishings, renovations) or drugstore purchases.

How to get your cashback

The rebate earned is credited back to your credit card balance each month.

There is no annual limit to continue earning cash back at the 2% rate.

No annual fees

There are no membership fees. It’s a card you should keep year after year, to improve your credit score (for the average account age). It’s a no-annual-fee credit card that we regularly recommend in our rankings.

Additional cards

You can add all the extra cards you want at no cost! Handy for a family, for example.

Insurance

Another strong point of the Remises Tangerine credit card is its purchase insurance.

It offers :

  • Purchase Insurance (up to 90 days)
  • One-year warranty extension

And this applies to purchases made anywhere in the world with your card.

The Tangerine World Mastercard offers additional insurance cover:

  • Collision/rental car damage insurance
  • Mobile Device Insurance
