The results of this quantitative and qualitative evaluation reveal that the Flying Blue Air France–KLM program retains the top global spot in 2025, followed by American Airlines AAdvantage, which climbs from 6th to 2nd position, and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, which moves from 7th to 3rd place.

In the first edition published in September 2024, Flying Blue also ranked first, followed by Air Canada Aeroplan (2nd) and United MileagePlus (3rd).

Flying Blue

According to Point.me, Flying Blue maintains its champion status thanks to excellent ratings in 5 out of the 8 categories analyzed.

  • The European program continues to gain popularity in the United States, notably thanks to the expansion of its transfer partnerships with all major credit card currencies, as well as its global coverage through the SkyTeam alliance and 23 additional partners.
  • The redemption experience is also praised, with quality customer service provided by well-trained agents, in addition to an easy-to-use website and mobile app.
  • Flying Blue does not, however, achieve a perfect score due to its sometimes high redemption rates and significant fees for changes or cancellations.

Benjamin Lipsey, President of Flying Blue and Senior Vice President of Customer Loyalty for the Air France-KLM group, stated:

“We are pleased to top the rankings released today by point.me. By harnessing the
power of point.me, Flying Blue broadens its reach, captivating travelers and fostering
loyalty, even among those who have yet to experience our airline firsthand. Point.me
elevates brand awareness and cultivates a community of avid explorers drawn to the
promise of Air France, KLM, and all our partners.”

American Airlines AAdvantage

Air Canada Aeroplan is replaced by American Airlines AAdvantage, which climbs from 6th to 2nd place in the 2025 global ranking, reflecting improvements to the program and its adaptation to travellers’ expectations.

American Airlines AAdvantage climbed to second position in the Point.me airline loyalty program ranking for 2025 thanks to several improvements: increased ease of earning miles, an expanded partner network, and new reward options, particularly through the strengthening of its partnerships (like World of Hyatt) and the stability of status thresholds, which make elite status more accessible and allow for tangible benefits.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

As for Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, the program stands out for excellent evaluations in 5 of the 8 categories analyzed and climbed 4 places compared to 2024, reaching 3rd global position. It offers exceptional value for award redemption and strong availability, especially for international flights to Asia and Oceania, in both economy and business class.

The program also stands out for its innovative routing rules, such as the possibility of a free stopover of more than 24 hours on award tickets, including for one-way flights, and for its attractive partner charts.

Other Rankings

Globally, the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club ranks fourth, and the British Airways Club also makes the top 10, both recognized for their ease of accumulating points and competitive points rates.

Point.me also offers regional rankings to help travellers compare programs based on their location:

  • North America: American Airlines AAdvantage
  • Europe: Flying Blue
  • Latin America: Avianca LifeMiles
  • Middle East & Africa: Emirates Skywards
  • Asia & Oceania: Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer (tied)

For those who wish to analyze the results in more detail, Point.me also presents performance according to each evaluation criterion, allowing for a better understanding of each program’s strengths and weaknesses.

Our Analysis of the Ranking

The Point.me ranking is based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria, which may not necessarily reflect every traveller’s individual goals and preferences. So, when you’re asked about your favourite airline loyalty program, your answer might differ from the published results depending on your fare class, travel routes, or your status with a specific program. It’s normal for travellers with elite status to be more likely to redeem their points with that program to maximize the benefits associated with their status. Despite these individual differences, it’s still interesting to see which programs stand out on a global and regional scale.

Another lesson to draw from this 2025 ranking: the strength of an airline program lies in its ability to offer reasonably priced flights with points, beyond the original airline. This is evident with Flying Blue, AAdvantage, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, and other ranking leaders, who have a wide network of partners and flexible redemption options.

Choosing an airline program can sometimes seem complex when it comes to accumulating miles or getting maximum value from them. The point.me ranking can therefore serve as a guide, while taking into account your personal situation and specific needs. For example, some programs like the British Airways Club can offer more value to Canadians thanks to the ease of transferring Avion Rewards points to Avios. This is also the case for Aeroplan, with loyalty points that can be transferred to the airline program, providing access to many Star Alliance network airline partners.

Bottom Line

This was the second annual edition of the airline loyalty program ranking published by Point.me, and it will be interesting to follow its evolution in the coming years. Airline programs continue to evolve rapidly, whether through new partnerships, changes in award ticket pricing, or changes in loyalty terms.

This ranking serves as a valuable reference for travellers looking to maximize the value of their points and miles, while also acknowledging that every situation is unique. Your preferences, travel routes, and status can all influence your experience and choice of loyalty program.

By keeping an eye on future rankings, travellers can make more informed decisions and get the most out of their travel rewards year after year.
