Flying Blue Promo Rewards: what are they?

Promo Rewards are a monthly promotion from the Flying Blue program, the loyalty program shared by Air France, KLM, Transavia, Aircalin, Kenya Airways, and TAROM. Air France-KLM offers a selection of cities to and from Europe with a discount of up to 25% off the standard Miles rate.

New Promo award tickets go on sale on the first day of each month. For the May 2026 promotion, you can book throughout the month of May and travel until October 31, 2026, subject to availability. In short, it’s an ideal window for planning a summer getaway or a fall escape to Europe.

Destinations and Miles Rates

Promo Rewards cover both short- and medium-haul routes within Europe and long-haul routes to/from Europe. Here are the main destinations available in May 2026.

Long-haul from North America

No Canadian cities appear in the promotion this time. However, several U.S. gateways are included, which opens the door for repositioning (see below).

Short- and Medium-haul in Europe

Once in Europe, these intra-European flights can complete your itinerary for very few Miles. Here are the routes for 7,500 Miles in economy class departing from Paris or Amsterdam.

  • Air France (Paris): Geneva, Zurich, Munich, Nice, Nantes, Bucharest
  • KLM (Amsterdam): Stockholm, Edinburgh, Southampton, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Bordeaux
  • Business (Extra Exclusive): Toulouse from Amsterdam, starting at 18,750 Miles

No Canadian cities: What to do?

For Canadians, the absence of Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver from the May 2026 list may be disappointing. That said, two strategies allow you to take advantage of the promotion regardless.

Strategy 1: Repositioning to the United States

Several U.S. gateways close to Canada are included: New York, Boston (Extra Exclusive), Chicago, and Miami (Extra Exclusive). You can buy a cheap round-trip ticket between your Canadian city and one of these cities, then board Air France or KLM using your Miles.

  • YUL/YYZ to Boston or New York: often available for under $200 round-trip with Porter, Air Canada, or Delta
  • Miles Savings: 18,750 Miles one-way in economy instead of the usual ~25,000 Miles
  • Premium Economy at 30,000 Miles one-way: from New York to Europe on Air France, an excellent value

Strategy 2: Monitor the coming months

Promo Rewards change every month. Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa have all appeared in the selection in the past. If your trip isn’t urgent, waiting for the next monthly wave could pay off. To track new awards in real time, check our news page.

Booking examples (with numbers)

In the past, we observed this example at 7,500 Flying Blue Miles between Montreal and Paris on Air France:

To better understand the value of Promo Rewards, here are some concrete scenarios for a traveler departing from a U.S. gateway.

Economy: New York-Paris

  • Promotional rate: 18,750 Miles one-way (instead of 25,000 Miles)
  • Round-trip: 37,500 Miles + approximately $224 CAD in taxes and surcharges
  • Cash comparison: an economy round-trip New York-Paris ticket generally sells for between $800 and $1,200 CAD depending on the season

Premium Economy: New York-Paris

  • Promotional rate: 30,000 Miles one-way on Air France
  • Round-trip: 60,000 Miles + approximately $352 CAD in taxes
  • Value: Premium Economy usually sells for between $1,500 and $2,500 CAD round-trip. This is one of the best uses of Miles at this price point

Business: Paris-Saint-Denis (Réunion)

  • Promotional rate: 63,750 Miles one-way in business class
  • Savings: approximately 21,000 Miles saved compared to the standard rate of 85,000 Miles
  • Ideal for: travelers who want to try Air France business class at a reduced Miles cost

How to earn Flying Blue miles in Canada

In Canada, several options allow you to quickly boost your Flying Blue balance. To learn more, check out our complete guide on how to earn Flying Blue Miles.

Transfer your Membership Rewards Points to Flying Blue Miles

American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Flying Blue at a 1,000 points = 1,000 Miles Flying Blue ratio. The transfer usually takes 24 to 48 hours but can be almost instantaneous. This is the fastest method to take advantage of a Promo Rewards offer that is closing soon.

So, with a credit card like the American Express Cobalt Card, you can earn the equivalent of up to 5 Flying Blue Miles per dollar spent.

However, there are many other American Express Membership Rewards credit cards from which you can convert your points into Flying Blue Miles.

Transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points to Flying Blue Miles

Second way to earn Flying Blue miles in Canada: American Express Marriott Bonvoy cards. You can transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points into airline miles including Flying Blue Miles at the ratio of 3 Marriott Bonvoy points = 1 Mile.

And if you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, you’ll earn 5,000 bonus Miles. Thus, 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 25,000 Flying Blue Miles.

The two Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards available in Canada are:

Get the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard

Since 2022, the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard® has allowed users to earn Flying Blue Miles directly on everyday purchases. It is a direct and complementary option for Canadian travelers loyal to Air France and KLM.

Buying Miles or Subscribing

Flying Blue regularly offers promotions on buying Miles. The “Subscribe to Miles” program also allows you to buy Miles at an advantageous monthly rate, starting at approximately 1.34 US cents per Mile at the Complete level. For example, for about $228 USD per month, you get 17,000 Miles—nearly enough for a one-way Promo in economy.

Tips for Finding Flying Blue Flight Rewards

On the Air France KLM website, there’s a trick to know for searching over 30 days using your Flying Blue Miles: don’t enter anything in the date field!

All you need to know about the Air France KLM Flying Blue program - Air France Search Roundtrip Fr

This unlocks a hidden option: a 30-day flight reward calendar. As shown below:

You can then select the date with the best price in Flying Blue Miles and proceed with the booking.

And remember that when you pay for your flight with Flying Blue Miles, the first 23 kg checked bag is included (and if you have Flying Blue status, you get an additional bag).

Mistakes to avoid when booking

Before finalizing your booking, keep in mind a few common pitfalls that can reduce the value of your award ticket.

  • Underestimating taxes and surcharges: Air France-KLM charges high carrier surcharges. Expect to pay around $200 to $600 CAD depending on the class and destination.
  • Booking too late: Availability is limited, especially during peak season. The best dates often disappear within the first few days of the month.
  • Forgetting flexibility: Changes cost €70 before departure, as do cancellations. Lock in your dates before transferring your Miles.
  • Ignoring the calendar search: On the Flying Blue site, leaving the date field blank displays a 30-day calendar. This is the essential trick for spotting the cheapest dates in Miles.

Conclusion

The Flying Blue Promo Rewards for May 2026 offer an excellent opportunity to use your Miles to cross the Atlantic at a reduced rate. Although no Canadian cities are included this month, repositioning via Boston, New York, or Miami remains a winning strategy for Canadian travelers. Premium Economy at 30,000 Miles one-way from New York remains one of the program’s best values.
