An Aeroplan member living in Canada can get Flying Blue Silver status for CAD 149, or Gold for CAD 299, valid for 12 months, without flying a single segment. Platinum, however, is not offered to Canadian residents: whatever your Aeroplan tier, Gold is the ceiling.
Flying Blue, the Air France-KLM loyalty program, accepts elite status from around twenty airline programs. Here are the real conditions, the fees, the match grid from Aeroplan, and whether the numbers work out.
If you hold elite status with an eligible program, you can ask Flying Blue to match it, for a processing fee. The request is made online at flyingblue.statusmatch.com and takes a few minutes.
You have to be a Flying Blue member, which is free to join, and provide proof of your current status: a photo of your elite card or a screenshot of your account. Government-issued ID may also be required.
Processing fees depend on the tier requested and on your country of residence. Here is the grid that applies in Canada, recorded on August 27, 2026 from the offer’s terms page:
These fees are non-refundable. They cover the validation of your request and the activation of the status on your account.
This is the key point for Canadian travellers. Here is what you actually get, from Canada, based on your Aeroplan tier:
The practical consequence: from Elite 50K upward, everyone pays the same price and receives the same status. The best value in this offer therefore goes to the Elite 50K member, who reaches the ceiling from the most accessible tier.
Aeroplan is not the only accepted program. Here is the official grid recorded on August 27, 2026. Remember that the Platinum column does not apply from Canada.
Two changes are worth flagging against the previous run of this offer. WestJet Rewards is no longer among the eligible programs, although it was last year. And Ultimate, the highest Flying Blue tier, cannot be matched from any program.
Silver is the program’s entry elite tier. It applies across the SkyTeam network:
Gold is the highest tier available from Canada. The gap with Silver is real, especially if you connect through Paris or Amsterdam:
Access to SkyTeam airport lounges with a guest remains the most tangible benefit. If you travel as a couple, the payoff is direct and measurable on a long connection at Paris-Charles de Gaulle or Amsterdam-Schiphol.

It comes down to your flying calendar. If you have at least one or two long-haul trips with Air France, KLM or a SkyTeam partner in the next 12 months, Gold at CAD 299 pays for itself quickly. One lounge visit with a guest is worth CAD 50 to CAD 80 depending on the airport: two return trips as a couple, with a connection, cover the fee.
If, on the other hand, you fly mostly with Air Canada and Star Alliance and have no SkyTeam trip planned, the spend is hard to justify. Silver at CAD 149 brings the extra bag and priority check-in, but without lounge access it sits well behind Gold.
