Metro and Food Basics grocery stores in Ontario had been linked to the AIR MILES program since 1997. This partnership came to an end on July 21, 2024, the last day AIR MILES Collectors could redeem and collect miles.
Today, METRO inc. announced that its Metro and Food Basics grocery stores in Ontario will join the Moi Rewards program on Thursday, October 24. It will be called Moi Rewards.
In Quebec, Metro grocery stores have been linked to the Metro et Moi program since 2010. Then, on May 25, 2023, the program changed its name to Moi and added the Jean Coutu, Super C, Brunet and Première Moisson banners.
What’s more, the Thunder Bucks program (Metro’s loyalty program valid only in the Thunder Bay region of Ontario) will also come to an end later this year, to make way for Moi Rewards.
All Moi members with an eligible RBC card can link their account to earn more Moi points. Eligible cards include almost all RBC debit and credit cards:
Only the RBC Moi Visa Credit Card is not eligible.
First, you must link your cards using the link in your RBC offers or by going directly to this RBC and Moi page. It will take approximately 2 business days after linking your accounts for the link to be valid. After you’ve made your purchases, it may take about 2 business days before you see your Moi points in your account.
Members can earn 1 additional Moi point for every $2 in eligible purchases, but there must be a minimum spend. Each time you store at Moi stores, you must swipe your Moi card at checkout and pay with your linked RBC card. You will earn:

Additional points will also be offered for personalized offers, specific products in store and contests to members. In addition, special prices on certain items are available only to Moi members. The redemption rate of 500 points for a $1 discount is still the same.
So if you have an eligible RBC credit or debit card linked to your Moi Rewards member account and you make an eligible purchase of $60 at Metro in Ontario, you’ll get :
For a total of 50 Moi Rewards points on a $60 purchase (value of 40 cents).
In Quebec, for the same eligible purchase of $60 at Metro, it would be :
For a total of 90 Moi points on a $60 purchase (72-cent value).
This change was easy to foresee, as Metro had to manage 3 loyalty programs in its banners, in 2 different provinces.
All the same, the Moi program is a little less lucrative and a little more complicated in Ontario than in Quebec and New Brunswick. It remains to be seen whether personalized offers will compensate for this.
On the other hand, the AIR MILES program has lost its last grocery partner. However, in recent months, it has found other ways to earn, such as with AIR MILES Receipts and theaddition of Costco, SAQ and LCBO to earn miles faster in other ways.
