After being launched a few months ago in the United States, the unique Apple gift card has arrived in Canada.
This brings a major change allowing you to get 5-10% on all your Apple purchases with the right credit cards.
With this unique gift card, you can buy :
If you purchased an Apple Gift Card (App Store / iTunes) at a grocery store, convenience store, office supply store or drugstore, you could add the funds to your Apple Account Balance!
Afterwards, you will be able to buy Apple products or accessories, whereas until now, you were limited to buying dematerialized products (apps, games, movies, etc.).
To be strategic, you’ll need to get an Apple gift card from your favourite store, where you earn 5 points per dollar (or even 10 points during some great offers).
For example, if you apply for one of these cards before August 3, 2021, you can earn 10 points per dollar on your grocery store purchases (including Apple gift cards purchased at your local grocery store checkout) :
But once these promotional offers are over, you’ll have to use other credit cards that allow you to earn, at any time, up to 5% for the purchase of Apple gift cards in some stores.
The American Express Cobalt™ Card is the best credit card from American Express, whether you want points for travel or cashback.
With this card, you can earn 5 points per dollar for your grocery purchases (Metro, Super C, some IGA, etc.) and convenience stores (Couche-Tard, 7Eleven, Circle K, etc.).
So when you buy an Apple card at a grocery or convenience store with your American Express Cobalt™ Card, you’ll get 5% back in points, which you can use for any purchase.
For example, if you buy $1,000 worth of Apple gift cards, you’ll get $50 back! An interesting discount when buying an iPad!
The Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card competes with the American Express Cobalt™ Card.
With this card, you can earn 5 points per dollar for your grocery purchases (Metro, Super C, some IGA, etc.).
When you purchase an Apple card at a grocery store with your Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card, you’ll earn 5% back in points, which you can use towards any travel purchase.
For example, if you buy $1,000 worth of Apple gift cards, you’ll get $50 back! A nice discount for when buying an iPhone!
Costco regularly offers substantial discounts for the purchase of Apple gift cards.
Will this still be the case now that these gift cards can also be used to purchase Apple products? Only time will tell.
Right now, you can use one of these Mastercard credit cards to get between 1.5 and 2% back in points at Costco for the purchase of an Apple gift card (in addition to any rebate you might get at Costco).
Once your Apple Gift Card is registered in your Apple online account, be sure to use one of the online shopping portals (Aeroplan eStore, Airmilesshops, etc.) before making your purchases on the Apple Canada website.
Occasionally, there are even promotional offers where you can earn up to 10 points per dollar or 15x the Miles.
Getting an additional 5% to 10% discount on Apple products is very interesting considering that the brand rarely runs promotions.
Remember, however, that when you purchase Apple products with an Apple gift card, you will not be able to take advantage of the insurance coming with your credit card (Purchase Insurance, Extended Warranty, Mobile Device Insurance).
This is an important criterion to consider if, and only if, you intend to keep the credit card for the duration of the insurance coverage!
