To the point Until October 25, 2025, learn how to earn up to 5,000 SQM by contributing to Air Canada’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel program. An eco-friendly initiative that helps you fast-track your Elite Status qualification.

Buying Status Qualifying Miles (SQM)

Air Canada launches an initiative that allows Aeroplan members to support the environment while fast-tracking their Elite Status qualification.

By contributing to the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) program until October 25, 2025, members can buy up to 5,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM).

As the year comes to a close, this tip can prove useful, especially if you’re getting close to the threshold for achieving Elite Status for next year. This will help you avoid taking unnecessary flights to reach your goal, especially with the changes coming in 2026.

How the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Program Works

First, visit the Chooose website, in collaboration with Air Canada.

By buying environmental attributes associated with SAF, you earn Status Qualifying Miles (SQM). For each purchase of 150 kg eq. of CO₂ Environmental Attributes, you earn 500 SQM, up to a maximum of 5,000 SQM per Aeroplan member. These will be credited to your account no later than December 1, 2025.

Move the slider on the chart to calculate the cost and add your Aeroplan membership number before making your payment (price may vary by member).

Note that these SQM are non-transferable and non-refundable. The transaction must be paid by credit card, and Aeroplan points cannot be used for payment.

Furthermore, the credit card statement will show “CHOOOSE * OFFER 2025″. Therefore, this purchase is not considered a purchase on the Air Canada or Aeroplan website, and there will be no additional points per dollar with any of the Aeroplan credit cards.

Bottom Line

You are not buying actual jet fuel for your flight. Instead, you are buying what are known as “environmental attributes” from a partner company called Chooose. This contribution does not make your flights less polluting; your plane will still use traditional fuel and your travels will generate the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions as before.

Instead, it encourages and finances the use of cleaner fuels across the aviation sector. And at the same time, as a reward, you earn SQM to reach your Elite Status faster!
