Just like every year, Amazon Prime Day is a great opportunity for Prime members to renew or add to their travel gear! The event will take place from Tuesday, July 11 (midnight) to Wednesday, July 12 (11:59 p.m.) 2023, Pacific time, i.e. from 3:00 a.m. for Montreal on July 11.
So let’s take a look at the best promotions and double-dips that could save you money. But first, let’s take a quick tour of the Amazon Prime service.
Amazon Prime - What is the Amazon Prime event?
Amazon Prime Day is an annual event usually held in early summer in July by the online retailer, Amazon. Promotional sales exclusively for members of the Amazon Prime program are offered over a short period of time. You can benefit from substantial discounts on a wide range of products, from electronics to clothing, beauty products, household goods and much more.
Started in 2015, Prime Day has become one of the biggest online sales events, comparable to Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Amazon Prime - How much does Amazon Prime cost?
Amazon Prime is billed at $9.99 per month or $99 per year (or $8.25 per month). Quebec residents can take advantage of 30 free days via this link. Students benefit from half-price pricing and a 6-month trial.
You need to be a member to benefit from Prime Day offers. Prime Video members must take out a subscription to benefit from this service.
Amazon Prime - How can I get a free trial for Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime is a premium subscription to free priority delivery on millions of items, with no minimum purchase required. The service has expanded in recent years and now offers a range of services, depending on the package chosen:
- Unlimited Video with Amazon Prime Video (movies, TV series, TV shows, sports competitions, etc.),
- Music with Amazon Prime Music (millions of ad-free songs),
- Exclusive video games and gaming content with Amazon Prime Gaming (Twitch),
- books with Amazon Reading (available offline on your e-reader) and accessible on your mobile devices,
- Free, unlimited photo storage with Amazon Drive.
Subscriptions are either monthly or annual, and delivery is usually within two days.
If you haven’t been a member in the last 12 months, you’ll get 30 days free via this link. To do this, go to Amazon Prime and select Start your subscription, then follow the site’s instructions. You can cancel at any time.
Amazon Prime - Personalized Prime Invitations
This year, members will receive invitation-only offers with a selection of products before the big day.
Amazon Prime - Amazon Prime Day promotions
Are you a member or have just become one thanks to the 30-day trial? Visit the Amazon app and check out flash sales, exclusive offers, discounts on essentials, back-to-school products and much more.
Before the event, browse the offers, add the products to your wish lists and activate your notifications to add them to your basket at the right moment and validate them quickly. Products are available in limited quantities, so it’s best to be organized if you want to shop successfully.
JBL Flip Essential 2 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker Steel Gray is a must-have for us when we go on a trip or get together with friends in the mountains or at the beach. The sound is high quality, the autonomy lasts (10h) and the design is modern. During Prime days, you’ll save 38% on this device.
Amazon Prime - Shop with points on Amazon Prime
Amazon is a partner of two financial institutions: American Express and TD. You can redeem American Express Membership Rewards points (1,000 Membership Rewards points = $7) or TD Rewards points (1,000 points = $3.33) at Amazon.ca.
Link your American Express or TD Rewards card to your Amazon.ca Shop with Points program. At checkout, select your American Express or TD credit card as your payment method and choose the number of points to apply to your order.
However, it’s worth noting that it’s more attractive to use your points on your Amazon purchase once it’s been charged to your American Express credit card. In fact, as with any purchase, you can use your points as an account credit at the rate of 1,000 Membership Rewards points = $10. Like my purchase at IGA:
If you’re an American Express or TD cardholder, you’ll want to keep an eye on your e-mail inbox, as you may well find additional promotional offers related to the event, enough to make you a double-double!
Amazon Prime - Amazon Prime Day partners
To earn the most points with this offer, it’s best to pay for your purchases with a TD Aeroplan credit card:
In addition, until July 16, Aeroplan is offering the opportunity to redeem points for a gift card and save up to 4,300 points.
If you don’t have a specific purchase to make around Prime Day, the Amazon gift card is the best option for pampering yourself later. The advantage is that there are no fees or expiry dates to use them. They are used to purchase eligible products and services on amazon.ca or other amazon sites in other countries.
Buy your Amazon gift cards in grocery stores(IGA, Sobeys, Métro, Super C) with one of these two cards: the American Express Cobalt® Card and the Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card. You’ll earn 5 points for every dollar spent on Amazon gift cards, or the equivalent of 5%. And if you use your Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card at IGA/Sobeys grocery stores, you’ll even earn 6 points per dollar!
Right now, you can also buy a $50 Amazon gift card on Amazon.ca for a $5 credit via this link. That’s a 10% return.
And if you combine that with the HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® (the only no-annual-fee credit card to offer 1.5% cash back for online purchases), that’s a return of 11.5%!
