SIXT is relaunching its promotion with Marriott Bonvoy this spring: up to 2,750 points per car rental. The offer targets travel in Europe and excludes Canada and the United States. In other words, this promo only concerns a portion of our readers, and its real value deserves a cold calculation before booking. We present the tiers, the conditions, and take a look at whether it’s worth it for those looking to book.
The structure is simple: the higher the rental rate, the higher the bonus. The base points (750) remain the same for each tier; only the bonus varies. Amounts are denominated in euros by SIXT; Canadian dollar equivalents are provided for reference at the current exchange rate.
Alongside the promo, SIXT offers a status match with your Bonvoy level. This benefit can be combined with the promotion’s bonus points. To fully understand Bonvoy levels, consult our complete guide on Marriott Bonvoy elite status benefits.
Let’s do the math. Marriott Bonvoy points are worth approximately 0.9¢ CAD according to our valuations. At the maximum tier, 2,750 points are therefore equivalent to about $24.75 CAD. On a €400 rental (≈ $600 CAD), the effective return is about 4%. This is decent, but it’s not a huge saving.
Warning: the promo requires the “Stay Flexible” rate, which is generally more expensive than the prepaid rate. The gap varies by destination, season, and vehicle category, but it can amount to several dozen euros (and therefore several dozen Canadian dollars) on a rental. Before booking, always compare the prepaid rate and the flexible rate on the same vehicle. If the surcharge exceeds the value of your bonus points, prepaid remains the better deal. For other ways to save, see our article on car rental discounts tied to credit cards.
A quick tip for Canadians who often travel to Europe: Marriott Bonvoy points earned through the SIXT promo can be transferred to Aeroplan or to other partner airlines, depending on the current ratios. It’s rarely the most profitable strategy, but it’s useful for topping up a balance for a specific redemption.
The SIXT × Marriott Bonvoy promo is not a bad deal, but it’s not a seasonal favorite either. For a Canadian traveler, it makes sense in one specific case: a stay in Europe this spring, with a real need for flexibility, ideally with Bonvoy Gold status or higher. Outside of this scenario, systematically compare the prepaid rate: it is almost always more advantageous.
