Aeroplan is changing the way Aeroplan points are earned on car rentals with Avis, Budget and Payless.
From now on, Aeroplan points will be awarded for every dollar spent on car rentals. Previously, they were paid out in a flat number of Aeroplan points, regardless of the period of time.
Aeroplan Members now earn 1 point for every dollar spent on basic time and mileage on Avis, Budget and Payless car rentals.
Aeroplan Elite members will instead earn 2 points per dollar on these same expenses.
Here are the differences :
For car rentals at Avis airport locations :
Aeroplan Members: 1 Aeroplan point / dollar spent
Aeroplan Elite Member: 2 Aeroplan points / dollar spent
Then, for car rentals at an Avis, Budget or Payless branch(outside the airport):
Tip: When booking with Budget, Aeroplan members can use the Budget discount code (BCD) A258200. This saves up to 35% on the base rate with the Pay Now option.
For Review, the discount code for Aeroplan members is C682300 and PDN H000100 for Payless.
Another part of the changes concerns the possibility of a higher status at Avis.
Since October 2022, cardholders of Aeroplan status or an Aeroplan premium credit card can obtain status with the Avis Preferred program.
Only Premium credit cardholders had access (such as the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card or the American Express®Aeroplan® Reserve Card). This gave them the advantage of automatic Avis President’s Club status.
As of July 20, 2023, Aeroplan Core credit cardholders will be entitled to Avis Preferred Plus status! This applies to Aeroplan credit cardholders such as the Aeroplan® American Express®* Card or the Aeroplan®TD® Visa Infinite* Card.

Tip: Make sure you are a member of the Avis Preferred program before applying for equivalent status.
So, here’s a summary of the new Avis status equivalents, based on Aeroplan credit card or Aeroplan status:
This new feature will enable Aeroplan core credit card holders to enjoy benefits faster. Avis Preferred Plus status is usually reserved for those who have spent $4,000 on car rentals with Avis or after 10 rentals.
They can :
This change in Aeroplan point accumulation is advantageous for Aeroplan Members who make expensive or lengthy car rentals at the airport.
The only people at a disadvantage will be those who rent everything at a low price. They received 250 or 500 Aeroplan points at any given time. Now, they will have to make a basic rental of at least $250 or $500 excluding taxes and fees to receive the same number of points. An Aeroplan Elite Member will benefit slightly more.
For the Avis status equivalence of Aeroplan Core credit cards, this is good news! Even if you don’t intend to rent a car, it can be handy to get one. You never know what your travels might bring!
Just being in the special members’ line, passing in front of everyone else or receiving the car directly are very attractive benefits.
