Some people wonder if it is possible to have credit cards issued by institutions other than the one where their accounts, mortgages, loans and investments are held. Of course, it’s possible!
In addition, a second question is being asked on the Milesopedia Facebook group: how do we pay for a credit card statement via AccèsD Desjardins when it’s issued by a financial institution other than Desjardins when that’s where our bank accounts are?
The answer is simple: it’s possible and very easy.
AccèsD Desjardins is a secure online banking platform offered to Desjardins customers by Caisse Desjardins. The Canadian financial cooperative offers the same kind of services for businesses with AccèsD Affaires. We’ll take a closer look next.
The AccèsD Desjardins platform makes it possible for members to manage their personal finances remotely:
AccèsD is accessible via a web browser or mobile application, offering flexibility and convenience for banking anytime, anywhere.
To access the platform’s online services, you must first register with AccèsD by providing personal information such as your Desjardins card number.
Each time you log on, you’ll need to create your own security settings. You’ll have:
Once you’ve registered, you can log on to AccèsD with your username and password. A one-time security code will be sent to you by text message or landline telephone. Find out more about the security of the AccèsD transactional site here.
Then you can consult your accounts, make transfers, pay your bills or manage your credit cards.
Paying online offers not only convenience and speed, but also the chance to avoid late fees. Payments can be made from anywhere, at any time.
Paying a credit card on AccèsD Desjardins, if your card’s institution is not Desjardins, is done in the same way as when paying bills such as Hydro-Québec or the SAAQ.
First, go to the PAY tab on the AccèsD Desjardins portal dashboard.
Desjardins lets you set up automatic payments to settle the minimum balance, the total amount due, or a fixed amount each month, helping to avoid oversights and late fees.
Then go to the “ADD an invoice” tab.
Notice in the illustration that my American Express Cobalt® Card is already registered. Note, when this tutorial was created, HSBC was still active but the principle remains the same. We had added the HSBC World Elite® Mastercard®.
Also notice that next to “add”, there are options to “MODIFY or DELETE” an invoice. You will use the Delete option for example when you have closed a credit card and no longer need to make payments.
Then enter the name of the issuing institution in the “SUPPLIER” box.
In the category drop-down menu choose: “Credit cards and prepaid cards”.
The search will offer two options. In this case, we had chosen HSBC Mastercard, which unfortunately no longer exists.
It’s then time to enter your card number to pay your credit card via AccèsD Desjardins in the reference space so the payment is made in the right place at HSBC.
Then in the description, you can add details (or not). I added that it was the WE card, for World Elite.
Finally, you confirm.
Your new credit card is now among your other bills on AccèsD Desjardins.
You can now make your credit card payments through AccèsD Desjardins, and therefore from your Desjardins bank account:
I told you its was easy. Child’s play! You can now take advantage of the best credit card offers in Canada, while remaining a Desjardins banking client!
The Caisse Desjardins offers several credit cards adapted to different needs, such as cash-back cards, reward points, low-interest cards, and student cards.
Each card offers specific benefits, such as travel insurance or purchase protection, although these are not the most competitive benefits on the market. Here are the details:
