Wondering if the Aeroplan Chexy offer is worth it? In this article, we explain how you can earn over 80,000 Aeroplan points simply by paying your rent with the right credit card.
Chexy is an innovative Canadian platform that is revolutionizing the way we pay recurring bills like rent, taxes and more. Founded to fill a specific need in the market, this fintech allows consumers to pay their fixed expenses by credit card, even when service providers traditionally only accept bank transfers or cheques.
The platform allows users to make a wide variety of payments, including:
In June, Chexy and Aeroplan announced a partnership with a limited-time introductory offer that allows Chexy users to earn bonus Aeroplan points on recurring payments made through the Chexy platform. The offer has since been extended to September 15, 2025.Earn up to 10,000 Aeroplan points, redeemable for Air Canada flights by completing the following actions:
To maximize your Aeroplan points and take advantage of this special offer, the key is to use major expenses, like paying rent and bills to unlock a welcome bonus that requires you to meet a minimum spend within a set timeframe.
Such is the case with the American Express Gold Rewards Card; its welcome offer goes up to 60,000 Membership Rewards points.
When I reviewed the details of this offer, it was clear that it’s ideal for using Chexy to pay your monthly rent. Here’s how the offer is structured:
Let’s say your rent is $1,500. Taking into account Chexy’s 1.75% fee, you’ll be charged $1,526.25 per month. These payments alone will earn you 18,312 Membership Rewards points over the course of a year.
In your first year as an American Express Gold Rewards xardholder, your rent payments will earn you the 5,000 Welcome Offer Membership Rewards points every month for 12 months, for a total of 60,000 Membership Rewards points.
This represents a total of 78,312 Membership Rewards points with the American Express Gold Rewards Card, and 10,000 bonus Aeroplan points earned directly through the Chexy Aeroplan partnership launch offer.
All you have to do is transfer these Membership Rewards points to Aeroplan, and you’ll have 88,312 more Aeroplan points than before. Milesopedia estimates that a well-used Aeroplan point has a value of approximately 2 cents per point, which means savings of $1,766 for your next trip! These points can become even more valuable if you find business class sweetspots with Aeroplan, for example.
Another advantage of the American Express® Gold Rewards Card welcome offer: since points are paid out continuously each month the minimum spend is reached, it’s easy to use a portion of the points for travel during the first year of card use. In other words, there’s no need to wait until you’ve unlocked the full bonus to start travelling!
To find out if Chexy ‘s 1.75% fee is worth it, you have to do the math. Obviously, the fee increases or decreases if your rent is higher or lower than $1,500. But following the previous example, the Chexy fee is $26.25 per month, or $315 per year.
Added to this is the American ExpressMD Gold Rewards Card annual fee of $250. However, the Card offers a travel credit of $100 per year, which offsets some of the fee, as well as a wealth of benefits such as insurance and a Priority Pass membership.
For 78,312 Aeroplan points, or the equivalent of at least $1,566 to travel, it’s clearly worth it. But you have to use your points wisely.
The American Express® Gold Rewards Card isn’t the only card that’s advantageous for using Chexy; you just need to find a card that can give you more value per dollar spent than Chexy’s 1.75% fee. For example, the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite Card offers 4% cash back on recurring payments, i.e. all payments made with Chexy.
Chexy offers a referral program that helps you save on your monthly payment fees. You can reach different tiers to lower these fees, and you’ll also earn dollars in your Chexy Wallet that can be used to offset Chexy fees.
Paying your rent or bills with Chexy is a straightforward process. It took me about fifteen minutes to set it up the first time, and once everything is in place, your payments are automated each month.
I detail the process in our guide to paying rent with Chexy. To take advantage of the Aeroplan offer, you’ll need to provide your Aeroplan membership number. You’ll then need to enter the credit card information you wish to charge.
My recommendation is to perform this process at the beginning of the month, so that you have time to notify your landlords of any changes in banking information if the payment is by pre-authorized debit.
If you haven’t yet received your American Express® Gold Rewards Card when you sign up for Chexy, you can add a different card for now, and then switch to your Gold Rewards Card before the payment is processed.
Chexy now allows Canadians to pay rent and bills, taxes, tuition fees, and more in order to earn even more credit card rewards.
With the current Chexy Aeroplan introductory offer combined with the American Express Gold Rewards Card welcome offer , you can easily earn over 80,000 Aeroplan points by paying your rent for the next 12 months with Chexy.
Chexy’s launch offer with Aeroplan expires on September 15, 2025. Now’s the time to sign up and earn those bonus points!
