To the point For a limited time, you can earn up to a 15% bonus by transferring your HSBC Points into KrisFlyer miles.

Get a 15% bonus when transferring your points to Singapore KrisFlyer!

Until November 22, 2021, you can transfer your points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and get up to 15% bonus.

To earn the bonus, you must transfer enough points to earn at least 10,000 KrisFlyer miles in a single transaction:

  • Convert between 10,000 and 49,999 KrisFlyer miles in one transaction (pre-bonus) and get a 12% bonus
  • Convert over 50,000 KrisFlyer miles in one transaction (pre-bonus) and get a 15% bonus

KrisFlyer offers this promotion (so you won’t see any sign of it on the transfer partner’s side).

There is only one Krisflyer’s transfer partner in Canada:

Here are Krisflyer’s transfer partners in the United States:

  • American Express Membership Rewards
  • Brex
  • Capital One
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • Citi ThankYou

However, please be aware that KrisFlyer miles expire 36 months after being earned (regardless of whether there is an activity in your KrisFlyer account or not). If you transfer points into Krisflyer miles during this promotion, they will expire in 3 years.

In Canada, only HSBC Rewards allows you to transfer points into KrisFlyer miles.

Usually, when transferring 25,000 HSBC Rewards points, you earn 9,000 KrisFlyer miles. With this offer, you can get:

HSBC Rewards Points KrisFlyer Miles
25 000 10 080
50 000 20 160
75 000 30 240
100 000 40 320
125 000 50 400
145 000 60 030

To get the full 15% bonus, you will need to transfer 145,000 HSBC points in one transaction: this will give you 52,200 KrisFlyer Miles + 15% = 60,030 KrisFlyer Miles.

With KrisFlyer miles, you can book specific flight awards not available to Star Alliance partners such as Aeroplan.

I am thinking in particular of some Singapore Airlines business class routes or first-class flights. Such as the Singapore Airlines Suite in some A380s.

The most interesting options are the following – provided that Saver Awards are available, which is rare (non-COVID-19 times):

Flight KrisFlyer Miles (Saver)
Singapore – London 125 000
Singapore – Zurich 125 000
Singapore – Sydney 85 000
Singapore – Tokyo 70 000
Singapore – Shanghai 53 000
Singapore – Mumbai 53 000
Singapore – Hong Kong 40 500

So when transferring 100,000 HSBC Rewards points to KrisFlyer, you’ll earn 40,300 KrisFlyer miles, enough for a one-way First Class flight between Singapore and Hong Kong.

Alternatively, those 100,000 HSBC Points could be used as a travel credit worth $500.

Conclusion

This promotion could be useful for those who got the full welcome bonus of the HSBC World Elite® Mastercard®, from last year or earlier this year.

If you don’t have this card yet, you should know that this conversion bonus comes back annually (just like the one for British Airways Executive Club); and that right now HSBC is running its best offer for the HSBC World Elite® Mastercard®.

Note that at this time, due to COVID-19, Singapore Airlines has changed its schedule and it is difficult to have visibility on flight rewards. Therefore, it is a bet for better times, keeping in mind that your miles will expire in 36 months!
