***Update September 14, 2022: Air Canada doubles Priority Rewards. See below. The rest is unchanged.

In 2022, Air Canada had extended the Aeroplan Elite status of its members, due to the uncertainty of the moment.

Now that travel is picking up quickly and to help members maintain their Elite Status in 2023, Air Canada has launched a great promotion.

Members who earn 30,000 Aeroplan points on an Aeroplan co-branded credit card by November 30, 2022 will have their status extended through December 31, 2023. No registration required.

In addition, if you are an existing Aeroplan credit card holder, any points you have earned on your card since January 1, 2022, will count towards this offer. To go with this promotion, Aeroplan is now also offering to double Priority Rewards earned by Aeroplan Elite members from July 1 to December 31, 2022.

Aeroplan Promotion Extension Status

All Aeroplan co-brand credit cards are eligible. Here is an example of cards eligible:

Bonus Priority Rewards

To encourage Elite members to travel, Aeroplan is offering to double the Priority Rewards earned between July 1 and December 31, 2022.

Each Priority Reward entitles you to a 50% discount coupon on any Aeroplan flight reward with Air Canada and its partners. A Priority Reward can only be used for one passenger, and you may redeem it within 12 months of earning it.

Remember, to earn a Priority Reward, you must reach a Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD) level. You can see in your Aeroplan account how many dollars you have to spend before you reach a new level.

Aeroplan Priority Rewards

When you have a Priority Reward, you can access it from your Aeroplan Dashboard to view the details:

Aeroplan Priority Rewards

This means that Aeroplan Elite members may benefit from booking flights with money instead by the end of 2022 to reach a new SQD level and earn two Priority Awards instead of one.

You can then use them to reduce the base fare in points of your flight reward by 50% on a future trip for two people, or for two separate trips within 12 months of the issue date.

Conditions of the offer

In short, this promotion is only for those who already have Aeroplan Elite status AND are also the primary Aeroplan credit card holder (or will soon become one).

Attention! Only points earned at the basic and accelerated rates will be eligible.

For example, a welcome offer like “5 times the points on travel purchases during the first six months ” won’t count. It counts if you have a 1.5x base earning rate on grocery purchases.

Here is an example for the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card:

Example Prestige Promotion

Exclusions include:

  • Any one-time welcome bonuses that you earn for signing up for your Aeroplan credit card
  • Any time-limited promotional accelerators on certain spend categories
  • Any points earned after Nov. 30, 2022

And Earn can be combined through multiple cards if members hold more than one Aeroplan co-brand credit card. Of course, you’ll only get the extension once, but it can give you a nice boost.

Please note that eligible expenses incurred by additional card are included in the 30,000 point calculation.

Also, please note: your Aeroplan credit card account and Aeroplan membership account must be active and in good standing until November 30, 2022, in order to process your Aeroplan Elite extension. And if you cancel your Aeroplan credit card after the Aeroplan Elite status has been extended, Air Canada reserves the right to remove the extension.

When will the status be granted?

Aeroplan Elite status extensions started in July 2022 for members who have already accumulated the minimum qualifying points.

Once you have earned the minimum points required, please allow up to eight weeks for processing of your Aeroplan Elite Status extension.

So, if you reached the 30,000 point requirement late enough in November 2022, some may temporarily lose their status in January 2023. But that will be because the extension has not yet been applied and will be granted later.

Bottom line

If you don’t have an Aeroplan credit card right now, that’s okay! You still have the opportunity to get one and take advantage of this promotion by November 30, 2022.

If you are an Aeroplan Elite member now, this is a great opportunity to reach a new SQD threshold before the end of the year and earn bonus Priority Rewards.

By the way, we recommend that you do this quickly for some cards while the great offers are active, such as for the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card :
