The Triangle Rewards program is Canadian Tire’s loyalty program. Free and simple to use, it lets you earn CT Money at Canadian Tire and several partner retailers, then use it to reduce the cost of your eligible purchases.
Whether you’re an occasional shopper or a regular at Canadian Tire group stores, this program can help you save on everyday purchases. In this guide, discover how the Triangle Rewards program works, where to earn CT Money, how to use it effectively, and which Triangle Mastercards offer the best benefits.
Canadian Tire’s Triangle program has no membership fees and is open to all Canadian consumers.
You can join this program in two different ways:
The Triangle Rewards program lets you earn CT Money on eligible purchases made at Canadian Tire as well as at several partner retailers, including Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Équipeur, and certain Sports Experts locations.
Note that not all Sports Experts locations participate in the Triangle Rewards program. Before shopping, it’s recommended to check whether your store participates so you can earn CT Money.
You can also earn rewards at participating Gas+ gas stations, partners of the program.
On the other hand, no CT Money is awarded on certain purchases, including gift cards, lottery tickets, hunting and fishing licences, prepaid cards, calling cards, and tobacco products.
Generally speaking, eligible purchases made at Canadian Tire earn a return of about 0.4% in CT Money. At Gas+ gas stations, members earn $0.03 per litre of gas purchased.
Finally, it’s worth remembering that one dollar of CT Money equals one dollar of purchasing power on an eligible purchase at participating Triangle Rewards merchants.
You can exchange your Canadian Tire points for cash discounts at the following retailers: Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Équipeur, and Sports Experts. You just need to show proof of Triangle program membership to complete this transaction.
Note that this exchange is only possible in-store at Atmosphere and L’Équipeur, as this transaction isn’t available online. It’s also worth noting that redeeming Canadian Tire reward points is only possible at a limited number of locations.
For that reason, it’s worth doing some preliminary research to make sure the location you’ve chosen participates in Canadian Tire’s Triangle program.
We also strongly recommend applying for both the Triangle loyalty program and an affiliated credit card at the same time. Doing so lets you benefit from a boosted cash rebate when you make purchases at Canadian Tire or associated retailers.
It’s also best to redeem your points during a promotional period, as the rates in effect will give you a higher monetary return for a similar number of points.
The Triangle Rewards program ranks among the best loyalty programs in Canada for consumers who shop regularly at Canadian Tire and its partner retailers. Since membership is free, there’s virtually no downside to signing up.
To maximize your rewards, the Triangle™ World Elite Mastercard® remains, in our view, the best choice in the lineup. With no annual fee, it offers an excellent earning rate, particularly at Canadian Tire and on groceries. Its main drawback remains the minimum income requirements, which can limit its accessibility.
We also believe the program could be even more compelling if it offered a true bank account, along the lines of some competing programs, to further boost rewards when multiple financial products are used together.
Finally, it would be worthwhile if all Sports Experts locations participated in the Triangle Rewards program. Having to check whether a store is eligible before every purchase hurts the member experience.
Despite these few areas for improvement, the Triangle Rewards program remains an excellent option for consumers looking to save on everyday purchases, especially when paired with a Triangle Mastercard suited to their needs.
