The Triangle program began in 2018 and is attached to the Canadian Tire organization. This program allows you to earn Canadian Tire points when you make in-store purchases.
Membership is free and has several benefits. Here is an overview of the main components of Triangle.
The Canadian Tire Triangle program has no membership fees and is open to all Canadian consumers.
Membership in this program can be done in two different ways:
You can earn points you make purchases at Canadian Tire as well as at many other retailers such as Atmosphere, Rousseau Sports, Hockey Experts, l’Équipeur and Sports Experts.
Please note, however, that not all Sports Experts locations allow you to earn CT points. So it’s important to do your homework and check with your local branch beforehand to see if there is an agreement in place with Canadian Tire.
Rewards can also be earned at Gas+ stations that have a partnership with Canadian Tire.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that you cannot earn Canadian Tire points on gift cards, lottery tickets, hunting and fishing licenses, prepaid cards, calling cards and products containing tobacco.
Earning Triangle Points is quite simple as all Canadian Tire store spending earns a 0.4% return. It is also possible to earn 0.03 cents on every litre of petrol at Gas+ service stations.
More importantly, it’s important to note thata Canadian Tire dollar is the same as a cash dollar.

The Triangle™ World Mastercard® is Canadian Tire’s mid-range card . This card has no annual fee and no minimum income requirement.
Like the previous card , you get 4% cash back on all purchases at Canadian Tire or partner organizations such as Atmosphere, Rousseau Sports, Hockey Experts, l’Équipeur and Sports Experts.
You also earn 0.05 to 0.07 cents for each litre of gas spent at the Gas + service station, depending on the promotions in effect. Finally, a 24-7 customer service is also at your disposal.
The Triangle™ World Elite Mastercard® is the premium card from Canadian Tire. This card has no annual fee, but requires a minimum income of $80, 000 for an individual and $150,000 for a household.
Like the previous cards, you get 4% cash back on all spending at Canadian Tire or partner organizations such as Atmosphere, Rousseau Sports, Hockey Experts, l’Équipeur and Sports Experts.
You also earn 0.05 to 0.07 cents for each litre of gas spent at the Gas + service station, depending on the promotions in effect. You can also receive 3% rebates on all your grocery spending up to $12,000 per year.
It should be noted, however, that purchases made at WalMart and Costco are not eligible for this cash back.
Plus, roadside insurance, car rental insurance, property damage insurance and an extended warranty on your purchases are included with this card. Finally, you have privileged access to a 24-7 concierge service.
You can redeem your Canadian Tire points for cash rebates at the following locations: Atmosphere, Rousseau Sports, Hockey Experts, l’Équipeur and Sports Experts. All you need to do is show proof of membership in the Triangle program to proceed with this transaction.
Please note that this exchange is only possible in store at Atmosphere and L’Équipeur, and not online. Also, it is important to note that Canadian Tire Rewards points can only be used at a limited number of locations.
To do this, you will need to do some preliminary research to ensure that the branch you choose participates in the Canadian Tire Triangle program.
Secondly, it is strongly recommended to apply simultaneously for the Triangle loyalty program and for a credit card affiliated with it. This action will earn you bonus cash back when you spend at Canadian Tire or associated retailers.
It is also preferable to redeem your points during a promotional period when the current rates will allow you to have a higher monetary return for a similar number of points.
Based on this analysis, we note that Canadian Tire’s Triangle loyalty program allows Canadians to earn great cash rewards without having to spend large amounts of money.
The Triangle program has several interesting components, including its partnership with Mastercard which has led to it offering of three credit cards. While these cards each have several advantages, we believe that the Triangle™ World Elite Mastercard® is the most attractive to consumers. Indeed, we find the reward earning rates in stores (4%) and grocery stores ($3) to be generous, considering this card has no annual fee.
Moreover, this financial product offers good basic insurance. The only downside is the minimum income requirement ($80,000 for consumers and $150,000 for households), which may deter some Canadian consumers.
While we like the Canadian Tire Triangle program, there are a few things that we think could be improved. First, there is no “checking account” which could have encouraged more Canadian consumers to join the Triangle program. It could have been like the PC Optimum Money Account and offer even greater cash returns when combined with other financial products such as a loyalty card or credit card.
It would also have been appropriate for all Sports Experts locations to be part of the Triangle program. We find it irritating to always have to check if a specififc store is part or the Triangle program.
In conclusion, we really like Canadian Tire’s Triangle program because of it’s flexibility, and the ease with which its rewards can be used.
We also recommend that Canadian consumers apply for both the Triangle Rewards card and a Canadian Tire Credit card to maximize the rewards earned.
All in all, this is an excellent program for individuals who shop regularly at Canadian Tire, Atmosphere, Rousseau Sports, Hockey Experts, l’Équipeur and Sports Experts or frequently use Gas+ service stations.
However, it is less relevant to apply for this rewards program for occasional shopprtd, as the cash returns will only be marginal.
