After a night at the The St. Regis Mexico City and another night JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City, I will spend my last night in town at the W Mexico City. This hotel is also a member of the Marriott Bonvoy program. It is a category six hotel and costs between 40,000 and 60,000 points per night.
I preferred to keep my points and pay for my stay with my Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card given the rate I got.

The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points to stay for free at over 7,000 hotels worldwide is to be a Marriott Bonvoy American Express (and/or Marriott Bonvoy Business American ExpressMD Card) cardholder.
In addition to the great welcome bonus on both cards, you’ll earn 2 points per dollar on all purchases and 5 points per dollar at Marriott locations.
And each year, you’ll earn a free hotel night certificate (35,000 point value) as well as 15 Elite nights towards your Marriott Bonvoy status.
Alternatively, you can earn Marriott Bonvoy points with American Express Membership Rewards credit cards. You can transfer Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy points at a rate of 5:6 (50,000 Membership Rewards points = 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).
For example, with the American Express CobaltMD Card, you earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar of purchases at grocery stores, restaurants, bars, convenience stores and home delivery. It is one of the best credit cards in Canada for travellers. Find out why here.

The W Mexico City Hotel is located in the upscale neighbourhood of Polanco. It takes about 30 minutes to get there from Mexico City International Airport (MEX).
It is adjacent to the JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City.
When you arrive in the lobby of the W Mexico City hotel, you can feel that you are in a W hotel: trendy music, colourful decor, and a youthful atmosphere.
I checked in using the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app.
By negotiating via chat, I got a suite upgrade. It must be said that when I visited during COVID-19, the hotel did not seem to be very busy.
I gave my Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card as collateral and to pay for my stay there. With the Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card, you earn 5 points per dollar for all your spending at Marriott Bonvoy hotels.
This is the best credit card to have if you stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels frequently.
A bartender served me a welcome cocktail.
The suite is a nice size with large bay windows. Composed of a king bed and a sofa, we notice however that the furniture is not very recent (as well as the electronics).
A Nespresso coffee machine is available, as is a mini bar.
As for the bathroom, it has a shower and a bathtub on the left. And separated from the toilet using just a shower curtain. Surprising or even disturbing when you are a couple or with a friend (especially since the location of a sliding door is clearly visible).
The W Mexico City Hotel has an indoor pool in the spa area. If you prefer a real pool, I recommend staying at the nearby JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City instead.
The W Mexico City hotel gym has decent equipment, and you can enjoy natural light during your workout.
Since my flight to Montreal left early, I was not able to have breakfast at the hotel. I simply sampled a few dishes at dinner. Considering the price, I would recommend going out for dinner in the neighbourhood!
If you make purchases in the bars and restaurants of your hotel, do not forget to charge these expenses to your room bill. So you’ll earn up to 17.5 points per dollar based on your Marriott Bonvoy status!
And when you check out, pay with your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card to earn 5 points per dollar!
The W Mexico City didn’t blow me away. The hotel is showing its age: from the corridors to the rooms and the gym, this hotel could use some renovation.
So I wouldn’t recommend it at this time, knowing that there are better options in town. See our other reviews:
