To the point WestJet has announced several changes to its WestJet Rewards loyalty program on its website, effective 2025.

WestJet airline offers travelers the WestJet Rewards loyalty program. Members can earn and use WestJet dollars through this program, and enjoy a wide range of benefits.

WestJet - Updated Spending Thresholds for Certain Levels

The spending thresholds for the Silver, Gold and Platinum levels will undergo major changes, effective January 1, 2025, as indicated on the WestJet website.

Here are the new spending thresholds:

Level 2018-2024 2025
Silver $3,000 $4,000
Gold $5,000 $6,000
Platinum $8,000 $10,000

 

For example, Silver members will have to spend $4,000, instead of $3,000, to maintain their status.

However, the airline has indicated on its website that if you reach one of these three levels during 2024, you will continue to enjoy your benefits in 2025.

WestJet - Reorganization of Priority Boarding Zones

WestJet has also modified its boarding zones, effective January 15, 2025:

  • Zone 1: reserved exclusively for Platinum members and guests travelling in Premium and Business cabins;
  • Zone 2: reserved for Gold and Silver level members, as well as guests in the Extended Comfort section.

WestJet has also announced the removal of several rows from the Zone 2 boarding call. Guests will now board in zones 3 to 9.

WestJet - New Information on Free Cabin Upgrades

Premium members will still have the opportunity to enjoy complimentary upgrades before check-in and at the gate, the airline said.

Beginning January 15, 2025, WestJet will expand eligibility for free upgrades with the following:

  • One Platinum, Gold or Silver member and one other guest on the same reservation;
  • Member-exclusive (Economy) rates for Platinum-level members when upgrading to Premium or Enhanced Comfort cabins.

WestJet - New Spending Threshold

Starting January1st, 2025, WestJet will reduce the total number of threshold rewards, while adjusting reward choices at each level.

WestJet will also be introducing a new spending threshold, offering the chance to earn rewards starting at $2,000.

You can choose the reward of your choice, according to your needs:

  • 20 WestJet dollars;
  • 200 in recognized expenses for the current year;
  • A $25 Skip gift card.

From $8,000 and up, you’ll have a choice of the following rewards:

  • A WestJet companion voucher;
  • Six pre-selection vouchers for guest seating;
  • Four airport lounge vouchers.

Extending the Validity of Companion Vouchers to Two Years

From now on, all companion vouchers issued as threshold rewards will be valid for two years.

In addition, WestJet has clarified that Gold and Platinum members will also be able to combine two companion vouchers on the same booking.

WestJet Rewards Program

With the UltraBasic fare, it is not possible to use the loyalty program WestJet Rewards program. To take advantage of this program, the airline suggests that you book an Econo or EconoFlex fare.You can also upgrade your UltraBasic fare with Extended Comfort.

One of the best ways to earn WestJet dollars on your everyday spending is with the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card or the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card.

You’ll be able to collect Avion points and transfer them to WestJet Rewards. And take advantage of RBC offers that will allow you to earn points faster with certain brands.
