In a major announcement for the Canadian rewards sector, RBC and Canadian Tire have launched their strategic partnership between Avion Rewards and Triangle Rewards, now allowing members to link their eligible RBC card (credit or debit) and earn 3 times Canadian Tire Money on their purchases at participating merchants.
According to Vinita Savani, Executive Vice President, Cards & Loyalty, RBC, “We are bringing together two deeply rooted Canadian companies – Canada’s largest bank and the country’s largest general merchandise retailer – to increase the amount of everyday value, rewards and savings that we provide to our shared customers.”
This alliance between RBC and Canadian Tire aims to enhance the experience for Avion Rewards and Triangle Rewards members. Eligible RBC credit and debit cardholders can now link their account to the Triangle Rewards program and earn 3x Canadian Tire Money on purchases at participating merchants.
The process to link your RBC credit or debit card to your Triangle Rewards account is simple and quick. Once linked, you will immediately start earning 3x CT Money on your purchases at participating merchants.
Steps to link your account:
Tip: if you already have a Triangle Mastercard, compare the rates to see if linking with your RBC card is more advantageous for certain purchase categories.
Eligible RBC cardholders (credit or debit) will enjoy several benefits:
Perhaps like us, reading this news makes you wonder: what about Canadian Tire credit cards? With this partnership now active, we wonder if new credit cards will emerge, as was recently the case with the partnership between More Rewards and RBC.
For points collectors and Triangle Rewards members, this can be beneficial and offers the possibility to link any eligible RBC card (credit or debit), thus providing more options for redeeming and using points. We are used to seeing a large number of earning and redemption partners in each program, but on the other hand, this can seem more complicated and sometimes confusing for the average person.
It can be easy to get lost, or even to forget that these opportunities and partnerships exist. In the complex world of rewards, some programs (such as Scene+ or American Express Membership Rewards points, among others) are appreciated for their ease of use.
For now, it’s worth remembering that it’s possible to directly earn points in the following programs with any eligible RBC card (credit or debit):
And indirectly with these partners, by linking accounts: Petro-Canada’s Petro-Points, Rexall and Hudson’s Bay Rewards. And don’ t forget Avion Rewards’ airline transfer partners: British Airways Club (Avios), Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, American Airlines AAdvantage and WestJet Rewards.
This expands the possibilities for redemption, but can also make the choice more difficult. Consult our points value estimate to get an idea of the optimal use of points for each program.
This strategic alliance between RBC and Canadian Tire marks a turning point in the Canadian rewards industry. It offers consumers new opportunities to maximize their rewards now, especially by linking any eligible RBC card (credit or debit) to Triangle Rewards, while strengthening the position of both loyalty programs in the Canadian market. It will be interesting to examine the value of this partnership after the full rollout of benefits, initially planned for 2026.
In the current situation, this news promoting rewards from Canadian companies is most welcome.
