So, if you have a status with the frequent flyer program of one of the 16 specific airlines and you live in the UK, Canada or one of the European countries listed, you can also get a status match with Flying Blue via Status Match.

The announcement of this status match offer was made by Ben Lipsey, SVP Customer Loyalty | President of Flying Blue, at The Travel Summit event in Toronto.

Flying Blue status match - Conditions to be met

Here is a list of the main conditions for getting a Flying Blue Status Match

  • Only one status match per person will be allowed under this campaign for Platinum, Gold or Silver levels.
  • Only residents of target countries holding local government-issued ID are eligible to apply.
  • If approved, the upgrade is valid for 12 months. To maintain your status beyond this date, you must requalify by fulfilling the status program conditions published on flyingblue.com.
  • Only elite status holders of eligible airlines, who pay the application fee and are approved, will receive matched status.
  • The Status Match offer is limited in number of connections and duration, at the sole discretion of StatusMatch.com and Flying Blue. It may be terminated at any time.
  • Members whose request for reconciliation of status has been approved will not be eligible for any subsequent reconciliation of status with Flying Blue.
  • Flying Blue status may be suspended, revoked or terminated by Flying Blue in accordance with the general terms and conditions of the Flying Blue program.
  • Flying Blue reserves the right to deny status to members who have previously violated the terms and conditions of the Flying Blue program.
  • Flying Blue may take up to 5 working days after approval by StatusMatch.com before the higher level is visible on the member’s account.
  • Approved members will not receive a physical status card.

Bottom Line

Flying Blue is thus further expanding its presence in North America, particularly in Canada.

After adding itself as a transfer partner for the American Express Membership Rewards program, launching a Mastercard credit card in Canada, and regularly offering attractive flight rewards on Canada-Europe routes during its Promo Rewards program, Flying Blue is now tackling the elite members of Air Canada and WestJet in particular.

If you are a resident of one of the countries listed above and hold status with an eligible airline, this is an excellent opportunity for you to get a Flying Blue status for 12 months.

Of course, the associated cost will have to be recouped by the benefits you’ll receive during these 12 months, whether in the form of free extra baggage, access to SkyTeam lounges or SkyPriority priority lanes (which could prove interesting in this year of the Olympic Games in France).
