New BMO VIPorter Mastercard Credit Cards

This new range of BMO Mastercard credit cards will be available to Canadians in the spring of 2025. VIPorter members who become cardholders will have the opportunity to earn rewards faster, and enjoy benefits at every stage of their travels.

To be among the first to become a BMO VIPorter Mastercard® cardholder, you can join the waiting list via this page. This will also allow you to benefit from an additional 10,000 VIPorter points when the welcome offer is announced.

“Porter’s elevated economy experience has set the standard for economy travel in North America. With the expansion of our network, we are also building a loyalty program that’s as distinct and value-focused as Porter’s flying experience,” said Kevin Jackson, president, Porter Airlines.

So we can also expect future improvements to the VIPorter program, which has already evolved over the last few years.

“The launch of the BMO VIPorter Mastercard suite is the first of many loyalty enhancements that will create substantial value and recognition for our VIPorter members,” continues Kevin Jackson, President, Porter Airlines.

Details and features of the BMO Mastercard for VIPorter cards are not yet known. However, we do know that they will enable VIPorter members to earn points quickly on everyday purchases, and then redeem them on Porter’s North American network and with Porter’s global airline partners, such as Alaska Airlines.

At a glance, here’s the extent of Porter Airlines’ current North American network (without airline partners) via Flightconnections:

VIPorter Program

Porter Airlines had already made changes to its VIPorter loyalty program in 2023. Here are some of the program’s features:

  • Each member receives 100% of the eligible points for a purchased flight, including base fares in the Economy class (excluding taxes and fees), which sets the program apart from those of other Canadian airlines.
  • Members with VIPorter status can collect points faster and enjoy exclusive benefits.
  • Points can be redeemed throughout the Porter network, with options for points only, or points and cash.
  • Annual spending of $3,000 allows members to earn Porter Reserve flight certificates.

Bottom Line

The arrival of a co-branded credit card for an airline represents an important milestone in the evolution of the loyalty program, and the added value it brings to its members. This is especially true for VIPorter, as there is no way to transfer or convert points from another credit card, as is the case with American Express Membership Rewards cards, or RBC Avion Rewards, which offer transfer options to other airline programs.

With the expansion of Porter’s network and its recent partnerships, notably with Air Transat and Alaska Airlines, there will be greater opportunities for Canadians wishing to travel with points. This is excellent news, especially for fans of Porter’s economy class, renowned for its quality experience.

It will be interesting to see just how far VIPorter points can go, and we’ll also be keeping a close eye on future enhancements to the VIPorter program, as well as the benefits offered by the new BMO VIPorter Mastercard® cards. Stay tuned!
