On June 4, WestJet unveiled its brand new UltraBasic fare offer, replacing its basic fare offer.
This is WestJet‘s least expensive option, with certain restrictions. Among other conditions, travelers will not be able to bring a carry-on bag. They will also be assigned a seat at the rear of the aircraft, according to the carrier.
According to John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, travelers will have the opportunity with this offer to customize “a travel experience that meets their needs, without paying for additional services they don’t value”.

Please note that passengers will board the aircraft in the final boarding area. WestJet advises that customers checking in carry-on baggage at the gate will be charged a checked baggage fee, as well as a service fee to check the baggage under the aircraft.
UltraBasic offers the following options:
WestJet offers travelers the WestJet Rewards loyalty program to earn and use WestJet dollars. However, this program cannot be used with UltraBasic.
To take advantage of this offer, the airline suggests booking at the Econo or EconoFlex fare.You can also upgrade your UltraBasic fare with Confort Accru.
Have you booked a Base fare on or before June 3, 2024? WestJet specifies that passengers will still be able to bring a carry-on bag.
With UltraBasic, the airline believes that Canadians will be able to travel more.
