Formerly known as Montreal Saint-Hubert, the airport changed its name to MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport. However, it retains its AITA code: YHU.
Construction of the 21,000-square-meter (225,000-square-foot), nine-gate terminal will begin in summer 2024, with completion scheduled for fall 2025. The terminal will be able to handle 4 million passengers a year.
The new terminal will feature comfortable seating for all passengers, food and beverage counters and stores.
In addition, a new 130-room Holiday Inn Express hotel will be built nearby.
Finally, the MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport is just 15 minutes from downtown Montreal. A free electric shuttle service will run between the terminal and downtown Montreal.
According to the plan, the first passengers should be welcomed at the new airport as early as 2025.
To limit noise pollution, various measures will be put in place, including a ban on wide-bodied aircraft, a ban on commercial night flights and the installation of silencers on flight school aircraft.
Porter had announced a partnership withAéroport Montréal Saint-Hubert (YHU), to build a new 21,000-square-meter (225,000-square-foot) terminal. It will have a capacity of over 4 million passengers per year. Porter will offer more than 10 new routes in Canada.
The design of the Montreal St. Hubert YHU Airport will be based on what Porter did at the Billy Bishop YTZ airport.
Porter built a terminal at YTZ in 2006 and 17 years later, the airport now handles 3 million passengers a year to 20 destinations.
The YHU terminal will allow faster processing of passengers to save on travel time, in addition to offering a VIPlounge.
This investment will result in more than 500 permanent jobs at the new St. Hubert terminal and the creation of a new pilot and flight attendanthub.

Porter flights will be operated by 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 and 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. We talked about it recently, with the delivery of the new Embraer.
In addition, this new terminal will be open to other airlines including Pascan Aviation, which focuses on regional flights in Quebec.
Porter and Pascan intend to have a code share that will facilitate the trip of their air travelers. This will provide more opportunities to travel in Quebec and in different regions of Canada. What’s more, Porter and Air Transat recently announced the creation of a joint venture, so it will be interesting to see how sharing their network improves regional, national and international connectivity.
The evolution of the MET project, also known as the YHU airport, means there will be more options for travelers in the Greater Montreal area, as well as contributing to the development of the local aerospace industry.
