Porter to offer flights from Montreal St. Hubert Airport (YHU)

To the point Porter is developing a modern passenger terminal at Montreal St. Hubert Airport (YHU) to offer flights to the rest of Canada.

Porter: New terminal at Montreal St. Hubert (YHU)

Porter has announced a partnership with Montreal St. Hubert Airport (YHU) to build a new 21,000 square metre (225,000 sq. ft.) terminal. It will have a capacity of over 4 million passengers per year. As a result, Porter will offer more than 10 new routes in Canada.

Construction of Porter’s nine-gate terminal will begin in the summer and be completed by the end of 2024.

In addition, a new Holiday Inn Express hotel with approximately 130 rooms will be built nearby.

The design of the Montreal St. Hubert YHU Airport will be based on what Porter did at the Billy Bishop YTZ airport.

Porter built a terminal at YTZ in 2006 and 17 years later, the airport now handles 3 million passengers a year to 20 destinations.

The YHU terminal will allow faster processing of passengers to save on travel time, in addition to offering a VIPlounge.

This investment will result in more than 500 permanent jobs at the new St. Hubert terminal and the creation of a new pilot and flight attendanthub.

Porter's destinations from St. Hubert Airport

Destinations are not yet confirmed, but ten have been identified as potential :

  • Toronto – Pearson ( YYZ)
  • Toronto – Billy Bishop (YTZ)
  • Calgary (YYC)
  • Vancouver (YVR)
  • St. St. John’s

These flights will be operated by 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 and 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. We talked about it recently, with the delivery of the new Embraer.

We will update this section as we receive confirmation.

In addition, this new terminal will be open to other airlines including Pascan Aviation, which focuses on regional flights in Quebec.

Porter and Pascan intend to have a code share that will facilitate the trip of their air travelers. This will provide more opportunities to travel in Quebec and in different regions of Canada.

Bottom Line

This announcement means more options for travellers in the Greater Montreal area, as well as contributing to the development of the local aerospace industry.

It will also be interesting to see if there are any rapid transit offers between Montreal Saint-Hubert Airport and downtown Montreal and for Montreal-Trudeau International Airport YUL. All these new passengers will need efficient and fast transportation to the airport, which is not the case at the moment.
