In 2017, Egyptair ordered 6 Boeing Dreamliner (787-9) aircraft to rejuvenate its fleet of Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft. And good news for Aeroplan Miles users: this new aircraft will be positioned between Toronto and Cairo!
Until now, Egyptair positioned a Boeing 777 on the Toronto – Cairo route.
On board this aircraft, the comfort was far from optimal, especially in business class with reclining seats… but not horizontally, with a 2-3-2 split. You can read this report by Lucky from onemileatatime to see for yourself.
However, in economy class, Egyptair has configured its B777s with 3-3-3 rows while most airlines operating this type of aircraft have switched to 3-4-3, thus decreasing comfort.
2 years after its order, Egyptair will start receiving its B787 Dreamliner next March. And it has just announced that the first of them will connect from October 2019… Cairo (CAI) to Toronto (YYZ):
This device will be configured with:
And the good news: the business class will be configured as 1-2-1, so each seat will have access to the aisle and will probably be a horizontal sleeper!
This is exactly the same type of configuration (and the same number of seats) that Air Canada has for example on its B787-9…
…or Air France – which Audrey recently tested:
It remains to be seen which supplier Egyptair will use for its seats! But the cabin plan is promising!
Since Egyptair is part of the Star Alliance, award tickets are available on Aeroplan… and they don’t charge a carrier surcharge! Plus, award tickets on this line are very frequent!
For example, here is the business class fare on the first flight of the B787 on October 03, 2019:
And in economics:

This is great news from Egyptair, especially for those planning a mini-tour of the world with their Aeroplan miles. However, don’t expect to drink a glass of champagne on board: Egyptair is one of the “dry airlines” (airlines that do not serve alcohol on board).
