Canada Jetlines suspends all flights

To the point Canada Jetlines announced on Thursday that it would temporarily cease operations as of August 15, 2024, due to a lack of funding.

To date, Canada Jetlines has been unable to secure financing to continue operations. The airline plans to protect itself from its creditors.

“The company’s continued operation depends on its ability to raise sufficient funds and develop the airline until it can begin to operate profitably,” spokeswoman Erica Dymond said in a statement.

At the beginning of the week, the news was not good: Canada Jetlines announced the resignation of four senior executives, including Brigitte Goersch, the airline’s President and CEO.

Canada Jetlines’ inaugural flight took place in September 2022 between Toronto and Calgary airports.

Canada Jetlines - Canada's air market in a bad way

This is yet another blow to Canada’s air transport industry. In 2023, WestJet closed its low-cost airline Swoop. Lynx Air ceased operations at the beginning of 2024.
