To the point Here are some hotel stay ideas for free nights when traveling, with the best use of Marriott Bonvoy points.

Conditions

Several heavenly destinations are available for free hotel nights with points. Or sometimes it’s a good idea to use them for just a passing hotel on the road, or during a stopover between flights. That’s one less thing you’ll have to pay!

In all the examples below, the number of points is approximate.

It may vary according to the popularity of your date, the season and local events.

Earning up to 300,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for two people is possible with the current welcome offers, and these points have a value that can represent more than $2,800 in hotel stays.

For example, each person applies for the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card. Its welcome offer provides 70,000 points by meeting the required spending on the card within the first 3 months after enrollment. For two people, this will allow you to earn 140,000 points.

Then, by adding its counterpart, the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Card, you accumulate 80,000 points per person! In addition, each card provides upon annual renewal a free night per year, worth 35,000 points or less.

Strategy

Person #1 70,000 80,000
Person #2 70,000 80,000
Total 140,000 160,000

Thus, a couple can earn up to 300,000 Marriott Bonvoy points together to travel anywhere in the world, at over 8,000 Marriott Bonvoy hotels.

Hotels are easy to book. See our article on how to book free nights at a Marriott Bonvoy hotel, step by step.

Our trick is to book 5 nights with points.

The Marriott Bonvoy program has a special advantage when booked with points: the fifth consecutive night at the same hotel is free!

As long as you’re booking for 4 nights, you might as well book for 5 nights, as the number of points is the same.

After making a reservation in points, check the number of points required in the following weeks for the same period. It often happens that the number of points drops… to your advantage!
