Having a wide range of hotels to choose from (both in terms of number of establishments and different brands) is a strength for some loyalty programs.
For example, Marriott Bonvoy has over 7,000 hotels worldwide (including over 250 in Canada). And that’s why we talk about it so much on Milesopedia (especially since it’s one of the only programs to offer credit cards in Canada as well as a partnership with American Express Membership Rewards for the transfer of points).
For its part, World of Hyatt offers just over 700 hotels worldwide and only about ten in Canada. And there is no option in Canada to earn Hyatt points (except to purchase them).
Montreal was no longer served by Hyatt when the hotel on Place des Arts changed its banner from Hyatt Regency to DoubleTree by Hilton.
Hyatt is now redeploying to Montreal with the opening of 3 new hotels as reported by Tim F. in the Facebook group.
This is the closest hotel to completion: it is scheduled to open on 27 October 2021. It used to be the Place Dupuis Hotel.
It is located at 1415 Saint-Hubert Street in Montreal, near the Village. It has 354 rooms including 5 suites.
The Hyatt Centric in Old Montréal will have 177 rooms and will offer:
It is currently under construction in the Place Gare Viger complex.
Hyatt Centric is one of those rare brands in the World of Hyatt hotel range.
As Jean-Francois rightly points out in the Facebook group, this allows you to go and unlock a free night thanks to the “explore the brand” option (when 5 distinct banners are visited, you get a free night).
For example, it will be possible to get a free night by visiting:
The new Hyatt Place Montréal-Trudeau hotel will be located at 710 Michel-Jasmin Avenue, near Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.
It will have 8 floors, 154 rooms and a 4 level parking deck (which should be convenient for the parking option while traveling).
Hyatt is also planning hotel openings elsewhere in Canada in the coming months. The chain plans to open 11 hotels in Ontario:
