Acquired by Marriott in 2016 from the defunct Starwoodchain, Four Points by Sheraton hotels are elegant and classic with small modern touches. The one in Gatineau-Ottawa is no exception.
There are 250 of these establishments in 50 countries. 34 are located in Canada.
The brand stands out with its “Bed and Brews” package that highlights local beers. At least in non-pandemic times.
I went to the Outaouais and Ontario for a week-long getaway in the fall of 2021. The Four Points by Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa was the last of the three hotels I stayed at during that week in October.
It is a category 2 establishment, with a nightly rate of 10,000 points or $149 including taxes at the time of my visit. There is also a $16 per day outdoor parking fee.
I chose to pay in cash because I know that Marriott points can be optimized further at higher category hotels.
I also had a certificate for a free night but again, I preferred to keep it because it is worth 35,000 points and thus opens access to category 5 hotels.
The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Conference Centre Gatineau-Ottawa has 198 rooms and 3 suites. It stands on 9 floors.
The Four Points by Sheraton is located in downtown Gatineau, where you can easily walk to explore. It is also close to bridges and highway ramps. Five minutes by car is all it takes to get to the heart of Ottawa.
The lobby of the Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa Hotel has a classic tone with its grand staircase and mahogany wood furnishings. That’s where you’ll find the reception as well as the small convenience store. The staff is helpful and warm.
Couches, armchairs and decorations add colourful touches that enliven the atmosphere of the lobby.
The room is pleasant although small (24 m²). Upon entering, there is a space for coffee and tea. Then, a desk and its ergonomic chair.
Next to the king bed, there is enough space for a sitting area where the couch turns into a bed.
In addition, the Sheraton Ottawa-Gatineau allows for the addition of a crib and for $20, an extra bed.
The bathroom has a bathtub and a shower with rain head. Hygiene products and towels are available in sufficient quantities. Finally, bathrobes are available for us in the closet.
From the window, you can see either the museum or the profile of the Canadian capital, on the other side of the Ottawa River.
At the time of our visit, the restaurant l’Ardoise was open for breakfast only. These are offered free of charge to Marriott members with Platinum status and above. I enjoyed mine.
The indoor heated pool and the workout room at the Four Points by Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa were both open during my stay. But no one to use them. I always think of families with children who would be happy to use these facilities.
A small but useful business center is located in a corner of the lobby of the Four by Sheraton. Four Points by Sheraton. The computer is available for use, and faxing, printing and photocopying can be done.
The hotel is a stone’s throw from one of the country’s finest museums, the Canadian Museum of History.
In addition to its permanent and thematic exhibitions, the establishment houses the Canadian Children’s Museum, a theater and a CINÉ + with 3D screen. Believe me, you can spend hours there.
The hotel Four Points by Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa is without a doubt a good deal. A category 2 hotel, it is comfortable and suitable for all budgets.
Its central location in Gatineau allows you to get around on foot for both dining and entertainment purposes.
The capital city of Ottawa is only a few minutes away by car. Further on, one can discover the immense playground of the Outaouais.
Complimentary breakfasts for Platinum members are a plus, as is the heated pool for all.
