As of August 19, 2021, it is now possible to transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue, the Air France KLM frequent flyer program. The transfer rate is 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 750 Flying Blue Miles.
On January 3, 2026, this rate increased to 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 1,000 Flying Blue Miles.
For several years, Milesopedia has been advocating with various parties for this partnership between Flying Blue and American Express to happen, and it has now come to fruition.

And regularly, the Flying Blue program runs promotions called “Promo Rewards”, offering discounts of between 25% and 50% on award tickets. For example, for the month of August, you can save 25% miles when booking flights between Canada and Europe.
This is how I was able to treat myself to a business class flight between Toronto and Paris to try out Air France’s A350, just before the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is worth noting that Air France KLM and WestJet are also partners, which will also offer opportunities for flights within North America. This will offer a bit more competition to Air Canada and Aeroplan.
In addition, Flying Blue is an exciting program for families. Through the Flying Blue Family program, you can get a 25% discount on reward tickets for children aged 2 to 11.
This is excellent news, especially for the French diaspora settled in Canada who used to use the Flying Blue program. We will have the opportunity to delve into the details of the new opportunities this creates for your future travels.
