Tickets for this new route have been on sale since January 10, 2024.
The Colombian airline has announced that the flights will be operated by 180-passenger A320s. A total of 1,200 seats will be available each week.
From March 31, 2024, four flights a week will be offered: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
“Canadians are drawn to explore Colombia‘s year-round tropical climate, especially our culture, and abundant natural wealth, said Carmen Caballero, president of ProColombia, the promotion agency of Colombia. And this is why we celebrate flourishing air connectivity between Canada and Colombia, which provides travelers with the opportunity to explore the magic of both nations.”
In December 2021, Avianca announced its arrival in the country with the launch of the Bogotá-Toronto and San Salvador-Toronto routes.
To date, the airline has carried nearly 350,000 passengers on more than 2,800 flights between Canada and Colombia, Avianca said in a press release.
Avianca is an Air Canada airline partner and therefore accessible with Aeroplan points, as is Air Canada’s year-round Montreal-Bogotá route, available since 2020.
For a one-way departure from Montreal on June 3, 2024, the flight costs 30,000 points and 126 CAD in taxes.
On the same day, with a stopover in Boston – flight operated by Air Canada and Avianca – there is a slight difference in points downwards, but taxes are higher at 157 CAD.
By comparison, Air Canada’s direct flight from Montreal to Bogota on June 4, 2024 costs 37,600 points and $87 in fees and taxes in economy class.
This new direct Montreal-Bogotá route with Avianca could overshadow the Canadian airline by offering travellers more options.
