Air Canada unveils its first upgraded Airbus A321

To the point To mark the unveiling of its first-ever upgraded Airbus A321, Air Canada unveiled a number of cabin innovations on Monday.    

The aircraft has been “redesigned from nose to tail” to offer passengers greater comfort, announced the Canadian airline in a press release.

Comfort, convenience and connectivity. That’s what you can expect aboard one of Airbus ‘ fleet of A321s and A320s.

The new in-cabin products will “reinforce our industry-leading product offering,” says Mark Nasr, Air Canada’s Vice President, Loyalty and Products.

Cabin innovations

Air Canada customers will enjoy a whole new in-flight experience. Here are the main innovations:

  • Images captured outside the aircraft

This new outdoor camera system will leave no one indifferent. This device will offer high-resolution video, in real time, on screens integrated into the backrest. This is an industry first, according to the company.

  • Bluetooth audio connection

Passengers will be able to count on a new entertainment system in line with the airline’s sustainable development objectives. The display integrated into the backrest will be compatible with Bluetooth technology. It will be possible to connect personal headphones, thus reducing the use of single-use headphones.

  • New products focusing on technology and services

Other features of the new cabins include larger overhead bins, improved seating in both classes, power supply options for all seats, LED lighting with different moods,free high-speed Internet accessbut also a new entertainment system with selected live TV channels.

Aircraft modernization up to 2025

Air Canada has indicated that the 14 A321 and A320 single-aisle aircraft will be modified from this autumn until the end of 2025.

In addition, the new cabin will be lighter, reducing fuel consumption by more than 2.4 million liters for the entire fleet once the work is completed, the airline said, adding that GHG emissions will be reduced by 6,256 tonnes of CO2 per year.

This is in addition to the future A321XLR aircraft for the transatlantic market, which will be deployed between 2025 and 2027.
