Air France receives its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft

To the point Air France continues to renew its fleet and received its first Airbus A220-300 to replace its Airbus A318, A319 and Airbus A320.

Renewal of the Air France fleet

After the arrival of the Airbus A350 on its long-haul network, Air France is continuing to renew its fleet. Today, The French airline delivered the first of 60 Airbus A220-300s manufactured at the Airbus plant in Mirabel/Montreal.

This first A220-300 aircraft was named Le Bourget.

These new aircraft will gradually replace its Airbus A318, A319 and several Airbus A320s by the end of 2025 on the short and medium-haul network.

Air France will receive 6 aircrafts by the end of 2021 and 15 in 2022. As a result, they will account for nearly 60% of its medium-haul fleet, in addition to the Airbus A320 and A321.

New generation Airbus

The Airbus A220-300 is a new generation of aircraft. It emits 20% less CO2 than the aircraft it replaces and noise emissions will be reduced by 34%.

The aircraft’s operating costs are reduced by 10% compared to the aircraft it replaces. As a result, this will improve Air France’s profitability on its short and medium-haul flights.

Configuration

With its 3-2 configuration, this new single-aisle Airbus has 148 seats. As a result, 80% of the customers can be seated on the window or aisle side. There will also be an economy class and a business class section.

The cabin is also reminiscent of the Air France colours.

Upcoming Air France routes

Starting October 31, 2021 , travelers will be able to try it to these destinations:

  • Berlin,
  • Barcelona
  • Madrid
  • Milan-Linate
  • Venice

Then, during the 2021-2022 winter season, the aircraft will gradually expand its network to :

  • Bologna and Rome
  • Lisbon
  • Copenhagen

These flights will be from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.
