To the point Hotel Lac Brome is charming, quiet, and well-located by the lake, with above-average spa and fitness facilities. Here is my review of this hotel
  • Peaceful lakeside location
  • Spa, steam room, and outdoor hot tubs
  • Room with limited storage
  • Simple breakfast

For this getaway to Lac Brome, I made an exception and set aside my loyalty to Marriott and my Bonvoy Titanium status. Best Western was running two very attractive promotions: a 5,000-point bonus for every two-night stay and a gift-card offer with 20% extra value. This is exactly the kind of opportunity that is worth monitoring when optimizing loyalty programs: in this case, I saved 20% on my booking while also earning a worthwhile points bonus.

By also taking advantage of Best Western’s hotel status match, I immediately obtained the equivalent of Diamond Select, an optimal way to maximize the experience from the very first visit. And since Best Western is a brand that is sometimes overlooked even though many of its properties hold pleasant surprises, Lac Brome (a region with no Marriott options) was an ideal opportunity to test their Signature Collection lineup in a natural setting that I already enjoy a great deal.

Booking

At the time of our visit, the room rate was CAD 160 per night or 20,000 Best Western Rewards points. As the hotel has only recently joined the Best Western group, being able to book with points is a new option, which adds extra appeal for program members. For my part, I took advantage of the gift-card promotion: by purchasing three $100 certificates, I received three $20 bonus certificates, which allowed me to save 20% on the cash booking.

Arrival

Location

The Hotel Lac Brome, BW Signature Collection is located directly on the shores of Lac Brome, in a peaceful natural setting in the heart of the Eastern Townships. The immediate surroundings are fairly rural and quiet, ideal for those seeking a relaxing getaway with beautiful views of the water and nature. While the hotel is not within walking distance of a lively downtown core, it offers direct access to outdoor activities such as lakeside walks, kayaking, and cycling. Picturesque villages in the area, such as Knowlton with its shops, cafés, and galleries, are only a few minutes’ drive away, making it easy to combine lakeside relaxation with local discoveries.

Check-In and Lobby

Upon arrival, we were able to take advantage of free parking, available at the front or back of the hotel, which greatly simplifies access. The lobby is directly accessible from the entrance and offers a charming, welcoming space, enhanced by an inviting fireplace, perfect for relaxing. Since we visited in December, the holiday atmosphere was very pleasant, with nutcrackers and a decorated tree adding a festive touch.

The hotel was fully booked due to a private event (a wedding) on Saturday evening, so it was not possible to receive an upgrade. We were accommodated in a standard superior room, functional and comfortable, but one that does not reflect the property’s full potential. The hotel does offer more appealing options, such as rooms with a fireplace or mezzanine suites on the second floor, which provide additional space and comfort.

Room

The base room is modern, clean, and functional. The queen bed is comfortable, and the desk is well designed for a few hours of work or reading. Storage space is limited, with only a closet at the entrance and no additional drawer furniture. The bathroom is simple, with a shower only and no counter space around the sink. The television is standard, suitable for casual viewing, and the extras include a capsule espresso machine and a large mini fridge. All rooms feature a large patio door leading to a balcony, providing natural light and lake views. The hotel is dog friendly, which is a plus for travellers with pets. Overall, the room serves its purpose well: sleeping, getting some work done, and enjoying the balcony.

Restaurants

The hotel offers two distinct dining areas, each with its own atmosphere and purpose.

Breakfast

Located on the ground floor, the breakfast area is simple and functional. It operates as a self-serve continental buffet, with no table service. The selection is adequate, including soft-boiled eggs, yogurt, croissants, toast, fruit, and cheese, with only drip coffee available. There are no hot dishes or elevated options, but it is sufficient to start the day. The experience is straightforward and efficient, though it is not a standout feature of the hotel.

Restaurant and bar

On the ground floor, across from the front desk, you will find the restaurant “Un vrai délice,” which offers table service as well as a bar option. It is open on Fridays and Saturdays only, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We did not have the opportunity to dine there during our stay, but the space is well appointed and inviting, making it worth a return visit to try the menu.

Other Services

Gym

The hotel’s fitness room is simple but pleasant. The space is bright and well ventilated, making it comfortable even for a quick workout. The equipment is functional and in good condition, sufficient for a basic cardio or strength training session. For a hotel in this category, it is adequate, though it is not a defining feature of the property.

SPA

The spa is a true highlight of the hotel. The space is expansive, larger than what is typically found in properties of this category. It features a steam room, an indoor hot tub, and two outdoor whirlpools, all thoughtfully designed in a pleasant setting. A beautiful veranda overlooks the outdoors, adding natural light and a calming atmosphere. The ambiance is relaxing and inviting, ideal for unwinding after an active day or simply enjoying a quiet moment. The sensory experience, combining heat, water, and natural light, makes the spa a genuine retreat within the hotel.

Around the Hotel

The Hôtel Lac Brome benefits from a very pleasant natural location directly on the shores of Lac Brome, in a quiet environment that invites you to disconnect from everyday life. During our visit in December, we enjoyed the proximity of Mont-Orford National Park, a vast protected area where you can hike, cross-country ski, or simply walk in the snow surrounded by nature.

Even though we were already familiar with Canard du Lac Brome products, it was our first time visiting the on-site store. The experience truly lives up to its reputation: you can discover a great selection of exclusive products, sample preparations on site, and leave with unique gourmet souvenirs. For lovers of local gastronomy and fine products, it is a stop that is truly worth the detour and enhances the overall stay.

The region offers a great balance between outdoor activities and local discoveries, and that combination truly charmed us. It is a destination where you feel at ease both for a nature break and for more active exploration, and we will very likely return in the summer to discover other facets of this beautiful region.

Book with National Bank Reward Points

For travellers who prioritize freedom and simplicity over a specific hotel program, flexible points are often a strategic option. It is entirely possible to offset the cost of a stay using flexible points from the National Bank World Elite Mastercard.

À la carte Rewards points can be used to reimburse an eligible travel expense after purchase or to book through the National Bank travel platform.

How many points should you plan for?

Points are generally worth about 1¢ per point when applied to travel expenses:

  • $200 = approximately 20,000 points
  • $500 = approximately 50,000 points
  • $1,000 = approximately 100,000 points

The advantage is simple. No hotel categories, no chain restrictions, and total flexibility. You book the hotel of your choice, then apply your points to reduce or erase the charge.

Add the Annual Travel Credit

The card also includes a $150 annual travel credit, which is automatically applied to eligible expenses.

By combining this credit with points earned, it is possible to cover a significant portion, or even the entirety, of a stay within the first year.

Overall Impression

Overall, my stay at the Hotel Lac Brome was very enjoyable. The property benefits from an ideal natural lakeside location, with a charming, welcoming lobby enhanced by a fireplace and a festive atmosphere in December. The staff are welcoming, and the standard superior room, while simple, was functional and comfortable.

Highlights include the spa and steam room, as well as the outdoor hot tubs, which offer a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The room is clean and well equipped, with a comfortable bed, a functional desk, and a balcony overlooking the lake. The continental breakfast is adequate.

In summary, the Hotel Lac Brome is a great find in a charming natural region. Although we stayed in December, the experience suggests that summer would be just as enjoyable, and we will very likely return to fully enjoy the area and its activities.
