Tutorial Guide: Save on Hotels with Points
To the point Here is my feedback from the Long Beach Marriott Hotel, which is appropriate for families and couples looking to relax and enjoy the resort.

More than 150 Marriott hotels are available in Los Angeles. I chose the Long Beach Marriott to attend an event not far from there.

Long Beach Marriott - Booking

The Long Beach Marriott had member rates starting at 285 CAD per night when I came (330 CAD after taxes) for a room with two queen beds or one king bed, which I found rather excessive considering that this reservation was not changeable or cancelable.

In points, the night was from 28,000 points. The calculator in our Marriott Bonvoy guide gives me a valuation at $252. That is a difference of $80 in my favour or an estimated point value of 330 / 28,000 = 1.1 cent per point which is above the estimated 0.9 valuation by Milesopedia.

So I preferred to use my points since they allowed me more flexibility and the valuation was correct. Since this is a family hotel, I chose a room with two queen beds.

Long Beach Marriott- Location

From the international airport, it takes 34 km to get to the hotel. Traffic was heavy when I arrived, so it took me over an hour to get there. The Long Beach Marriott Hotel is then 10 km from the Waterfront.

Long Beach is a California resort where families love to come. The beachfront is a little more sheltered from the waves than on the coast, like in Naples. There is a large aquarium in Rainbow Harbor, “Aquarium of the Pacific,” many stores for shopping, museums and theatres, an 18-hole golf course and many other activities.

20km from the hotel is also the California Disneyland park in Anaheim, where we had already been with our family.

Long Beach Marriott - Registration

I received prompt service. After more than 11 hours in the air and over an hour’s drive from Los Angeles International Airport due to traffic, I was tired and would have liked a little warmer service.

The receptionist offered me a $5 off breakfast or 1,000 free points as a welcome gift. My status gave me access to the Club M lounge, where breakfast is offered. So I chose the points. My stay cost me only 27,000 points.

A small market was available next to the counter and offered necessities.

Long Beach Marriott - Room

I took the elevators to room 519. The decoration of the room was modern and warm. At the entrance was a small closet with a safe and the door next to it gave access to the bathroom.

The room was decorated in beige and blue, a nod to the seaside resort. It was relaxing. I really liked the bed, which was very comfortable. Next to it was a reading corner with an armchair and its footrest. The materials were of good quality, and the room was clean.

The view from my room was of the parking lot and beyond the Long Beach airport. I could see the planes taking off and landing. To get to this airport from Montreal or Toronto, two stopovers are necessary for the United States, which is not attractive, but from Vancouver, you can find one with a stopover in Salt Lake City. The hotel offers a free shuttle.

Opposite the beds was a desk with some storage space. The flat-screen HDTV was hanging above it. It was possible to connect to different services such as Netflix or YouTube.

An ice bucket was on the desk as well as the restaurant menu connected to the hotel. Below, a tray for coffee and tea with a bottle of water. Finally, a mini-refrigerator completed the whole.

Long Beach Marriott - Services

Long Beach Marriott - Breakfast and Lounge

Breakfast was served from 6 am to 11 am, but as mentioned above, I preferred to eat in the M Club lounge since my access was included with my status. The entrance was right next to the breakfast restaurant.

My welcome was perfect in the M Club lounge. The employee smiled, cleaned regularly, stocked the counter with food, and ensured everything was going well for the other customers and me.

The living room is modern, and decorated in a warm atmosphere with different corner seats. You could sit down and settle in one of the sofas or the armchairs. Two high tables accommodated large families with the television on the wall.

A printer area was available for customers.

I took the opportunity to eat there, but also to work in the morning.

As for breakfast, the offer was good but not exceptional. We stay in the United States with a classic American meal: bread, cereals, yogurts, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and potatoes, fruits, and small verrines of mueslis and fruits. The coffee was from Starbucks.

Another counter at the other end of the lounge offered fruit, salty snacks and some candy.

Long Beach Marriott - Other Restaurants

Other dining services are offered by theLong Beach Marriott Hotel:

  • the hotel’s restaurant which also serves on the terrace throughout the day,
  • The Margarita Bar and Cantina of Tamarindo which is a Tex Mex open from 3 pm,
  • Starbucks coffee shop directly in the hotel lobby with its lounge and bar, open from 6 am to 9 pm.

Long Beach Marriott - Pool

I was able to see two pools: one indoor, protected by a veranda and heated, the other outdoor, as well as a whirlpool. I found the space pleasant. Being in November, I didn’t plan to wear a bathing suit, the air being cool, but a family seemed to have had a good time there. A small water path with a waterfall behind allows for swimming and fun.

Towels are provided, and bathing is possible from 8 am to 10 pm.

Long Beach Marriott - Fitness Room

The fitness room is open 24 hours a day. Several cardiovascular training machines, treadmills, elliptical machines, bicycles, weights, etc. The room is pleasant as it overlooks the indoor pool and benefits from natural light.

Long Beach Marriott - Parking

One of the other benefits of the Long Beach Marriott Hotel is free parking. It is large, so you will have no trouble finding a place.

Long Beach Marriott - My overall impression

I enjoyed my stay at the Long Beach Marriott Hotel. I would gladly return with my family to explore the Long Beach resort in more detail as the area looks lovely, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy.
