During the holiday season, I stayed with my family at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée. Here is my review of this one with lots of pictures.
Before entering the heart of the matter, a small explanation on the choice of this hotel. I’m a regular at Starwood and Marriott hotels, so I should have opted for a stay at Le Méridien Nice (Marriott Bonvoy) or Le Boscolo Exedra (Marriott Bonvoy), especially as my American Express Platinum card gives me Gold status in both programs, which offers me a host of advantages.
However, the number of points required was rather high compared to the rather reasonable room rates (around CA$150 per night), as my stay was just before the Christmas vacation rush. And I had long dreamed of staying in this 5-star hotel on the French Riviera.
To tell you the truth, at the beginning of 2016, I took advantage of a status match from the Hyatt hotel group by obtaining the Diamond status Diamond status, which is the highest status within the Hyatt Gold Passport loyalty program.
The two advantages that make the difference are:
As I had not taken advantage of the upgrades during the year, and as they expire next February, this was a unique opportunity to take advantage of them, especially since suites were available on my dates at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée.

The Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée is ideally located on the Promenade des Anglais. You are indeed located in front of the beach, and in the heart of the city of Nice with all the activities accessible on foot (Old Nice, downtown and its shops, pedestrian way and its restaurants, bus lines serving the port and the airport).
Being from Nice, this is a facade that I used to see throughout my childhood on my way to the beach. The old building that stood there has been completely destroyed, but the facade has been preserved. The hotel and casino are perfectly integrated behind this one.
In front of the hotel, the Lido beach was very busy in mid-December.
Once in the lobby of the hotel, a majestic Christmas tree took place.
Check-in is on the left, with a counter reserved for Hyatt Gold and Diamond members. The receptionists are all bilingual or trilingual.
After the formalities, we are accompanied to our suite of more than 100 m2, on the sixth floor of the hotel, facing the sea. The corridors give the impression of being on a cruise ship.

Our daughter was not forgotten with a bathrobe and slippers, as well as toiletries for children.
As a welcome gift, we had a bottle of red wine and a bag of Socca chips – a speciality of Nice that I invite you to discover if you come to Nice! As this was a special occasion for a birthday, the hotel offered us a strawberry cake.
In the evening, we enjoyed two complimentary cocktails at the bar (worth 18 euros each), another benefit of Hyatt Diamond status!

The first morning, we asked for breakfast in our room.
A great way to enjoy the view while having lunch!
The next day, we enjoyed the buffet – and what a buffet! – to have our breakfast. I must admit that this is certainly THE best buffet I have ever tasted. Absolutely nothing is missing! Find out more.

In addition to the pool, there is also a sauna and steam room, as well as a gym.
This was an excellent stay at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée. It is a true 5 star hotel where you can enjoy excellent services throughout your trip to Nice. All the staff is attentive and attentive to your needs. In particular Aurélie H. , Executive Assistant, who made sure that our stay went perfectly.
So much so that we made a second stay at the end of our trip in France before heading back to Montreal. We again used an upgrade and this time got a suite on the 8th floor with a huge terrace and sea view. Judge for yourself (click for high resolution photo):
